Chapter 3 of The Morning Sun

My breath was cut short as I fled the scene, I was shaking violently, my teeth clashed against each other with great force which made me think they were going to break. The cold of the night pricked at my skin, making me desperately try and look for warmth. But all of the houses around were mostly bustled up with people, with gardens overgrown beautifully showing off the exterior of the mansions. I stopped for a moment to catch my breath, and as i did i noticed a haunting old fashioned house that was made in the 70s, although abandoned because many people claimed to have paranormal experiences whilst living there. I observed the house in awe, admiring the cluttered atmosphere and the carvings of flowers, particularly lilies, on the stone walls. As I stared, I noticed a flash of sudden light at the very top, it happened multiple times as if to engrain it into my mind.

“Who is doing that?” i thought,

Though as I looked closer at the shape, it became clear that it was a sun. “a sun?”

“Hey! Who is there?” i shouted, as i opened the black eroded gate that filtered my voice just as it made a loud creaking noise,

Smoke began to flow around the top, making its way into the atmosphere. The light was no longer there,

However, I was shocked with my mouth drawn open as I realized the smoke represented strings, that creature.

I quickly made my way into the house, heaving open the large doors with all my might. They closed behind me with a fairly major noise. The interior in fact gave abandoned its definition, the floor had nearly visible white tiles, but grass covered them between the cracks. The walls had pictures hung, but the dust covered them along with spider webs that scattered along the walls.

I drew in closer, walking along the main space towards the staircase that had red velvet carpet, though it was nothing of elegant, just covered in dirt and soot making it a murky red colour. I put my hand on the rail, but immediately snatched it away and rubbed the feeling off on my night wear as I felt a prickly rusty surface.

“Ew” I squirmed, but I still continued upwards which creaked horribly. Although as I ascended a few steps, I heard a bewitching melody seemingly coming from a piano downstairs to my far right. I found myself descending the steps and carefully treading to my right. It took me by surprise as I hadn't recalled seeing a room here when I came in, but at the same time i was stunned by how it was untouched by nature, looking absolutely divine with its white pearl tiles, walls that were painted the most lightest brown hanging some frames with pictures of a family in black and white. The wife stood with a tired expression whilst holding the baby, and the father sat down in a slump on a wooden chair sewn in the cushion.

“Women can never get a break”, i thought, as a picture of my mother screaming at my father to help look after me more came into my mind.

I turned my attention to the rest of the room, and with that I saw a bold looking exquisite piano by a window with red curtains that shown moonlight. I immediately ran towards it, running my fingers along the inside of the piano which faced towards me. The strings inside were pleading to be strung, but as I drew my hand outward to touch them , they began to vibrate making the same haunting melody I heard on the stairs once again.

I froze for a moment, wondering if I should see who was playing. Running my fingers along the outline of the piano upwards, I came to a corner that would take one movement to see the player. In spite of that, I felt a force of a hand pushing on my ankle making me stumble. I tried to stay in the same space but it was no use. Fear rose inside of me as I was faced with a creature that had the same casualty on its head as the one back home did, except their face was covered with a porcelain clown mask which had gold and blue markings. And their clothing was just as unusual, two freakish eyes on either side of their chest resting on a satin fabric with repeating red flat diamonds and a paisley pattern in gold on top of them. It was mostly ripped up on the sleeves and legs, but the chest remained mostly intact. I looked at their fingers on the

piano, I sighed deeply in apprehension as I saw their fingers were cut open and string like smoke were coming out of them. But the creature still continued to play, calming my nerves a little as I began to open my mouth to say something,

“Who did this to you? And why are you playing this piano..”

They appeared to be listening as they slowly turned to me, staring at me for a few seconds in complete silence. Its playing stopped along with them, then they began to move again by making a circular motion with their hands, making waves in the air along with it. “Huh?”,

I was confused as to why they were doing that, trying to make sense of it by staring at the motion over and over again as they redid it every time. “Oh?”, i turned my head slightly sideways to get another angle,

      “A sun?”

The creature then stopped doing the motions, and rested their hands on their lap as they began to fade away until nothing was left. Including the room, the layout became like the rest of the house, old and murky.

I then sprinted up the stairs, no longer interested in any hassle around me. I walked through the halls which had many rooms such as a small library, office, a bathroom, and some bedrooms. Though at the end of the hall I saw a shut door with a clean knob, I hesitated to open it but I was far too exhausted to ponder anymore, I just wanted to lay down and continue admiring the stars. Grasping my hand around the doorknob, I slowly turned it and pushed it open. What was revealed was a still overgrown room, but the bed was still intact with a few dirty blankets folded neatly on the mattress. A few shelves were near it, a ballerina statue lay on the top with little dirt. I then looked at the walls, they had yellow gloomy stripes with a picture of a cartoon in the middle of each of them stretching down for miles. I realized this must have been a young girls room, just like me, but perhaps a little younger. I was in awe with this room, although clammy and nature infested, I still liked it.

The wardrobe had fallen on the floor, a wooden floor. A few flowers were grown around it, with a vine that travelled towards the carpet in the middle. I guessed it used to be a pink colour but has now become brown. It was a circle shape with a rough texture. Now, finally a spot for stargazing, it was as if it was meant to be for me. Although there was no balcony, there was a massive window with a decent amount of grime and soot, but I could still see the stars in the sky. They were beautiful, so utterly beautiful. I would stare at stars for the rest of my life if I could, I just want to forever and ever.

My eyes suddenly became very heavy, making me gradually stop fighting my eyes to stay open. I fell asleep on the floor full of flowers, not conscious to decide whether i was okay with a bug or two crawling on me.
