Lemon Sharks!
-Lemon sharks are often recognized by their two equally-sized dorsal fins.
-Often seen as very social animals.
-Their snout is blunt and shorter than the width of the mouth.
-They have no mid-dorsal ridge.
-As adults, they are about 8 to 10 feet long.
-They are found inΒ subtropical shallow water to depths of 300 feet.
-They live around coral reefs, mangroves, enclosed bays, sounds and river mouths.
(However, they don't like freshwater all that much)Β
-Females and males reach sexual maturity at 12-13 years of age.
-Pups are born around 50-60 centimeters.
- Larger sharks may prey on pups and juvenileΒ Lemon Sharks, but when they grow older, those predators seem to back off!
- Lemon Sharks are prone to many parasites, which include copepods.
- The first name for the Lemon Shark wasΒ Hypoprion brevirostris, but now it'sΒ Negaprion brevirostris
