And it all came down to this. Facebook became a toxic pusshole, and old school social media won in the end. Interestingly enough, the 2000's have been rawring again all year long. No matter where you look, it seems that the 2020's is a repeat of the 2000's. Why is that? Is it because of the 2's and the 0's? Or is it something else that has brought the nostalgia back from the grave?
Well, I don't think it's a mere coincidence. Remember what the2000's were like apart from Myspace, grind core, metal core, crunk core, apple core, anything core? (bad joke intended)? The decade began on a rather nice note, but then 9/11 happened and everybody was primed for war and united. Then when the war on terror included Iraq, everybody was divided over the issue. Apart from that, we had a blue collar redneck infestation, in which the words "getter done" was so overly used by rednecks and wannabe rednecks that dignified people were ready to puke. It was fortunately a short lived phase. Then in 2008 there was the credit crisis. And who could forget rising gas prizes and Mel Gibson causing controversy.
However, look at how we lived regardless. We had Myspace, we had loads of horror movies that came out that decade. We even had a little channel called "Fuse" that seemed to be what MTV should have remained. Tila Tequila was actually hot (and sane if you can believe that). Myspace enabled artists, especially musicians, stand up comedians and loads of those scene kids with names often as complicated as the CSS coding we used on Myspace and here on Spacehey getting popular by just doing their thing. Apparently, you former emo kids turned responsible adults must have been happier than you initially seemed.
Jump ahead now to 2021. We have, rising gas prices, a depression that eerily echoes the credit crisis of 2008, a nation well divided, and absolutely no positivity in the current zeitgeist. So, what are we supposed to do? I'll tell you exactly what's going on. Every decade has it's flavor. the 70's may have carried over a little into the early 80's, but the 80's as a whole were a very different decade. In the 2010's, the 2000's carried over a little, then as people always do, they move on to the next thing. It's what people do. People just gradually, collectively, go to the next big thing.
With all the chaos we eventually went through in the last three years of the 2010's and into the present day, every one of us here on Spacehey is collectively, but unconsciously, capturing the positive aspects of the zeitgeist of the 2000's. People had something back then. They had a mindset that was manifest in how they lived, what they listened to, what they watched, what they wore. After looking back on this decade, and looking at what the world around us has turned into, it's no wonder why people are all going back to that mindset. People abandoned it, and now we all realize that at some unconscious level that we tried to fix what wasn't broke. So, I say go with it. If it's making harsh times easier, just do what you need to do. I've been seeing this trend all year long, and I'm having the same "rawring" good time as all of you.
