A Brief Respite

Hi! I hope you'll excuse my absence from Spacehey.

I spent two weeks with my brother and his family in the US, and it's taught me a lot. I've gained quite a bit of independence and courage -- I travelled over three thousand miles alone, on my first solo trip abroad.

My brother lives in a very small town with no public transport and no way to walk anywhere, the thought of which was very frustrating to someone who loves to walk everywhere and uses public transport almost all the time. He also has no Wi-Fi, so all in all it sounded as though I would spend a fortnight feeling isolated and bored.

That was not the case.

I spent a very busy two weeks helping my sister-in-law care for my nieces and learning their way of life, which involves a more holistic and natural lifestyle. They introduced me to a different way of thinking which has almost certainly made an impact on me and my thought process.

Already I'm excited at the idea that my brother might move and start a real ranch, at the thought of getting my hands dirty and really getting to experience what it's like to live off the land.

I can't wait to see what the future holds.
