Another repost from my old blog.
A recently discovered band on my behalf, thanks to the wonders of anime. Also, a band that, in my opinion, needs more listeners.
Image_____ is the first song I heard by Memai Siren and is the ending song for the anime Pet. If any of you have played Deemo, you might understand what I mean when I say they bring video game music into your own life.
Memai Siren is a rock group from Fukuoka, Japan, and has been around since 2012. They are a five-member group featuring: Kyoji (vocals), Rei Osawa (Guitar), Kosuke Morita (Bass Guitar), Ur (Vocal and Piano) and Nara (Drums). They released their first album in 2015, called Waiting for a Certain Yesterday.
Every time I listen to the opening of Image_____ and Yudachi, I can't help but think of Deemo. All of Memai Siren's music feels different from the others while keeping the same well known rock style that they can easily call their own, giving each song a fresh feeling. Their music feels powerful but heart wrenching, like it's you against the world. Going back to feeling like being in a video game, it feels like you are the hero fighting the monsters that each level of life throws at you (or maybe i've been watching too much Buffy). Which makes sense, although I don't fully understand Japanese, I have read that many Japanese Teens and Young adults have felt connected to their music due to the sad and lonely lyrics.
There are some elements of traditional Japanese music within their songs. Giving it a different vibe to some of the other Japanese rock groups people are familiar with. Their song A Feast of Imitations reminds me a little bit of Radwimps music (if you've seen Weathering with you or Your name, you might be familiar with them) though it has a heavier musical presence than the Radwimps music.
I won't analyse all of their songs as I hope to leave some pleasant surprises for you. I would definitely listen to this while exercising. It makes me feel very energetic and 'powerful'.
Thank you again for reading, it really means a lot. Please let me know what you think, or if you have any song or band suggestions x
