The Moon Will Always Be There

Transparent Teal Star

It's been a slow day, I had classes online and didn't do much. The class was mostly tutorials and quizzes, not much to comment on really. Macroeconomics are fine for now, I dread when we get to aggregate supply and demand. Ramadan starts today, and traffic was so hectic today with everyone scrambling to the bazaars for dinner.

The month begins with a crescent moon hanging over, and it's sighting marks the beginning of fast. I remember last year the moon caused quite a commotion last year, since it was spotted a day earlier than expected, so the fasting had to start early. Lots of frenzied cooking and travelling back to hometown posts on social media, that was fun to follow.

The bazaars will last until Aidilfitri so I'll take my time to visit them; there's this one stall in my local bazaar I've been going to for years now, they sell murtabak and it's a must have every time I visit. With curry, pickled onions and a bag of watermelon juice it's the best weekend dinner. The foot traffic is horrible but the smell and food sold make up for it. Last year a stall sold Nasi Arab which is like Biryani but with Arabic influences and it was amazing, I hope they're selling this year.

My college will also have a bazaar of it's own, held in our bumpy car park. My friend's dad is selling laksa there, I'll visit it tomorrow and see what's selling there. Personally I don't really like laksa, my spice tolerance is mid at best and the tamarind or asam soup as we call it isn't exactly my favourite flavour.

Said friend also got a new car today, her old car hit a curb and her steering was screwed, I think her engine was hit too. She said that the road lights were broken that day so she drove in the dark (headlights were on) but still hit the curb and the car went flying. Another person was also in the same situation so they both went to file a report with the city council. Thankfully she's safe but her car was a total loss, she just got it last year secondhand too. The car has had a lot of problems and cost a lot to fix so maybe this was a blessing in disguise.

I accidentally dozed off in the afternoon while listening to Infinity on High, and I've noticed for quite a while now that whenever I listen to the album in full I'll somehow fall asleep. It's amusing to think about it since the album art has a sheep (his name is Franklin!) in a bedroom with a crescent moon and illuminated with stars, but whenever I sleep with this album playing I don't get bad dreams, so that's a plus. I found an artwork based on the album and it's absolutely wonderful.

It's the first album I've ever purchased, and will eternally have a special place in my heart. On first listen I wasn't immediately drawn to it, but it slowly grew on me and when I was at an extremely low point in my life, this album saved me in a way. I love all of Fall Out Boy's discography, and Infinity on High will eternally accompany me throughout my life. Pete Wentz will forever be my favourite lyricist, and I think his pick of the album name was fantastic; the whole quote by van Gogh is seemingly enchanted itself:

“Be clearly aware of the stars and infinity on high. Then life seems almost enchanted after all.”

I think that's all for now, I'm stoked for So Much for Stardust releasing tomorrow and can't wait to hear it after 9-5 classes. This article/interview got me more excited. See ya

I really appreciate all the links you added when talking about Ramadan and the food you hope to find at the bazaars! I'm pretty unfamiliar with the holiday but go to a university with a pretty large Muslim population, and I also just like knowing more... especially about food.
Infinity on High was the first CD I ever purchased as well! For that reason I remember I listened to it at night when going to sleep dozens of times, so I easily fall asleep to it too, lol. I'd been meaning to check out that Kerrang article! I'm so excited for Stardust!

I'm glad you found it helpful! Each Muslim community's Ramadan traditions are a bit different so I love sharing and learning it, I also like knowing more too haha. Like in Somalia they prepare this honey cheese bread called Rooti Farmaajo during the month and it looks amazing.

That's awesome! I suffer from a lot of sleep problems so having this album lull me to sleep so easily, it's gonna become a routine haha. It's 24th March in a few hours but it won't release for another ~12 hours so I have to keep reminding myself that, but I'll be patient!
