$40 VCR?!

So a couple months ago I showed my cousin a few Titanicfan97 reels. She’d never seen Titanic before and thought the reels were hilarious. She also thought it was cool how the guy was just collecting Titanic on VHS. I jokingly told her I’d get her an old TV, VCR, and Titanic on VHS for her birthday. To that she said “alright!”. Uh oh. Was she serious? Sarcastic? Idk… a few weeks later she mentioned Titanic again, and after a while I realized she might not be kidding. So I went to the thrift store where I got my $3 CRT to see if the other one was still there. It was so I bought it. Sadly there were no VCRs or Titanic… oh well. 1 down, 2 to go. I went to Goodwill superstore a few days later, no VHS, just DVD. No VCRS, either :| I went to another Goodwill, still nothing. The next day I went to a place that claimed to be the “best thrift store in the state”. I’d been there a few times, but never bought anything… oh well it’s worth a try. I went in and went straight to electronics. I found a shelve with some old monitors, maybe some CD players, DVD or Blu-Ray players, no VCR. I decided I’d walk over to where the VHSs would be. Although something caught my eye: a VCR. $4. It was a little dirty and didn’t include an AV cable but I decided to go with it… back by where the VHS tapes would be (I said would be since there were none), I looked around anyway since I still like DVDs. I found season 2 of the British Office. I bought that since I watched a few episodes on Hulu and thought they were okay. I went to checkout and the lady at the counter said $43. Wait what? I asked her about the price, and called over her manager… damn I didn’t ask for the manager… I’m not a Karen I just got confused about the price… anyway the manager said $40. At this point some other people were in line so I simply said I changed my mind, coughed up $3 for the DVD and left. Damn. I felt cheated getting my $4 VCR without the cord a few months ago… so I was NOT about to pay $40 for that thing that was ALSO very dirty looking, like just wiping it down with a towel wouldn’t do much. Hopefully I’ll be able to find something tomorrow… maybe at another goodwill… honestly idk.

Yeah, the prices nowadays for VHS tapes and VCRs are rising. It's getting to the point where some tapes are more than 20 like wtf you know.
