hey forum!
quick warning before scrolling further, this is a lot of words. dont read everything if you don't like being bored.
what i want to know is: what are your honest opinions on the older cods? was there a golden age? what makes a golden age a golden age? is there a silver or bronze age in call of duty?
i just recently decided to jump back into mw22 after a couple month long break. not gonna lie, the lobbies i was put into quickly made me realize why i took a break in the first place lol. taken aback (and not willing to give up on busting a console out), i ended up dusting off the ps3 and trying my hand at mw3 instead.
i used to play mw3 with friends years back but a lot has changed. im no longer a young dude with very limited resources. back then, i played with what i had and with people i loved. looking back has always been positive and in a way has made what we have today feel... stale. still, comparing old times to new cod experiences felt odd. i skipped every cod title after ghosts/aw as i became older and had to work to survive. this wasn't just a cod thing either. i've fallen off the gaming map altogether, sticking with games that reflect the era i last cared about. i came back into the gaming sphere when i picked up my ps5. i always assumed this newest cod felt weird because i skipped the progression in cod titles and video games altogether. it honestly felt like i had walked through time.
feeling old while not actually being old aside, what i did today was unique in a few ways. sure, i had played mw3 many times, but never with 2023 hardware. i'm able to utilize the fancy tv, speedy internet and ultra gamer headset and approach mw3 with a mentality that has shifted with the introduction of much newer games. i also am in a unique spot as my experience with mw3 was mostly spec ops. my friends and i bought the game to play survival. i'd be lying if i said i never played the multiplayer, but i'm no veteran either. unlike other cods of that era, i have no heavy emotional tie to the multiplayer mode. i have 80+60 levels across two psn accounts and my window of play was about 5 years.
so what is mw3 like to someone whose played the newest cod?
different is the first word that comes to mind.
first impression is i feel floaty. is that a word? my cod soldier feels like a gun and arm floating around the environment. everything i do feels lightweight. i can run and jump quite quickly and my ability to become airborne while losing no momentum is unreal. i've done my fair share of yelling at the tv when the juiced up 12 year old jump shots my corner on mw22, but that's nothing compared to the test i ran on the poor dude that was just trying to play mw3 in peace today. in fact, that's a good segway.

skill or attention based matchmaking has made me feel run of the mill. i was always pretty stand out in cod growing up. mix in a few years of not playing and an aggressive matchmaking system and i can hardly tell if im good or not anymore. my mw22 stats lean towards a positive w/l ratio and a slightly negative k/d. take that matchmaking away, like how it went down today, and im not bad. in fact, i was caught off guard with how well i was doing.
to be fair, i can't say who i was playing against and what their background is in the game. maybe they're like me, chasing nostalgia but rusty as all hell. maybe they're mw3 champs who never left because they know perfection when they see it. my guess is a mix of both. some people seemed to be doing what was expected. that being running around and shooting on sight. a few others though were a different story. a couple players in each lobby seemed to know the ropes quite a bit, hanging back, pre aiming corners, watching spawns and lines of sights. everything i'd expect from someone who knows the game they're playing. what i find interesting is my ability to keep up with those players. i only found two people who knew the map (and their controllers) well enough to keep me well in check.
it felt nice to know that im in the top group of players on a weekday afternoon in a decade old game. could i say the same thing about counterstrike? i plead the fifth.

the first 3 modern warfares were hurricane epic, cool story from school times. the new parts don’t will lag on my PC, and from what I’ve heard about them they make me feel like “eeeh”
