I don't like it when people think art and design school is easy, you need to have research skills, conceptual skills, critical thinking skills, technical skills, and more. I've seen people major in art thinking it would be an easy A but nope they'd change majors in the end.

AMEN TO THAT!! my bf studies animation in university and that shit is tough. not only can the critiques be brutal, it's mostly learning by yourself because you can't just memorize shit and magically be good at it, art takes a shitton of tedious practice, which even the best teacher can't just magically conjure up.
although i myself am not studying art, i'm presuming it's also incredibly mentally draining. if you're a good artist, you put yourself in your work, which by its own takes a lot of mental energy, and through that you're vulnerable to anyone who perceives your art, as that is not JUST a picture/animation/item/whatever, it is literally YOU poured into it,,,,
I feel like it's such a deep and embedded stereotype, that only experiencing first hand will expose the true nature of the studies. I initially studied interior design and my god... it was a nightmare, even though our uni is much tamer because professors from other schools would literally destroy your work. Despite changing to graphic design, trust it is equally as hard and mentally draining for sure. The number one thing is we can't just design out of thin air, everything requires thought and research, and through research, you need to execute your final outcome well.

also, feel for your boyfriend *cries* I have animation friends and understand, it is equally hard! I feel like people views us as lucky but really we are suffering every day trying to get work done
