music recs 1 - dance rock
ok so i saw this blog post and i thought "yeah sounds good let's give some recs
only problem is, i my music taste is very broad, so, like,,,, what do i recommend?
so i'm gna try to divide these posts up into somewhat consistent categories that diff people might actually like
this first one - as u can see by the heading - is for the dance-rock fans (i can't think of a better label but you'll get it when you listen to a couple songs)
alright, so, let's get started!!!
1. !!! (pronounced 'chk chk chk') - even when the water's cold
the whole album rules, i mainly just chose this song because it's the opener and their most popular song, but also there's a reason for that --- it fkn slaps
just be ready for some,,, interesting lyrics
2. of montreal - she's a rejector
again, incredible album overall (you can just assume that's the case for the rest of the list bc,,,,, it probably is), but i couldn't not pick this because the iconic 'ICANTICANTICAAAANNTTTT'
if ur new to of montreal, fix that
<3. declan mckenna - twice your size
more of a bowie-esque take on the style here, and another banger
i'm really bad at writing this stuff but it's mostly bc this is pretty standard stuff (by my standards, at least)
regardless,,, mckenna is an incredible musician and an even better storyteller. u prolly already kno 'brazil'
4. deaton chris anthony - shed head
dca is the future i swear to god
put their songs in all ur playlists and all the cool people will be jealous of how cool u are
this list is already very inconsistent but that's fine bc yall gotta branch out
5. king gizzard + the lizard wizard - the bird song
king gizz making (their equivalent of) a pop album is the greatest gift i could ever ask for (defo not hyperbole)
if u like this, don't be surprised if their other albums are terrifying and confusing,,, that's a normal response, it's ok i promise
6. sweet trip - dsco
noisy, loud, and very happy
such a cool n catchy song
got the rec from my brother,,, idk when
7. the pom-poms - i was on the news
goin into even more electronic territory here, but it has a bass in it so it counts i decided
i remember getting obsessed with this band at the same time i was obsessed with yo gabba gabba, so read into that if u want
the kinda song to brush ur teeth to
[BONUS] domi + jd beck - bowling (ft. thundercat)
in case if u want something very different
these guys r very good at what they do, and what they do is be awesome
