work dilemma

sooo i've been at my current job for a year now, it's retail and while i enjoy it i'm not entirely sure i want to be there for much longer. i've already told my store manager that i'll be leaving once i go to college but i'm feeling like leaving a little earlier. mainly because of the hourly rate, the hours i'm working, and the recent violent activity around the mall. the only issue with me leaving is that my job is already understaffed and i'd feel bad about leaving along with the fact that i have no idea where to start when it comes to a new job. i think i need to just be decisive and assertive then go after what i want.
