[Note] Hadith of Jabreel (Read preface)

Preface: From the first notes i took on islam.

The Hadith of Gabriel, which is a account of the Prophets interaction with the Angel Gabriel, narrated by **Umar ibn al-Khattab**, tells of the pillars and important concepts within islam.

Umar spoke that one day he was sitting with the Prophet, and a man approached them, with abnormally black hair, and an abnormally white clothes, and it did not appear he was a traveler. Umar said he was a traveler because the man was not known by anyone of the town they currently resided, implying he is from elsewhere. Though he was clean, unlike a traveler would be.

The man approached the Prophet, and say down on his knees in front of the Prophet. The man put his knees, to the knees of the Prophet. This shows the humility of the Prophet Muhammad, that despite his authority, he allows  unknown men to be near him, something exceedingly uncommon for leaders of the time, and even today. **This is a lesson in Humility, none of us are above the Last Prophet, so why should we act otherwise?** The man then put the palms of his hands to the thighs of the Prophet, then referred to the Prophet by his first name.

We as Muslims are taught to respect authority, by calling them the proper name. This unknown man spoke, and asked "Muhammed, what is Islam?"

The Prophet says, "Islam is that you bear witness, that there is no god worthy of worship other than Allah". (**He did not say, that there is not God to worship OTHER than Allah, only that Allah is the only one worthy of worship.**

Jesus is a God, money is a God, spouse can be a God. Only Allah deserves worship.) Its continued, "You establish the 5 prayers everyday, and that you give the Zakat, and fast during Ramadan, and that you make the Pillgrimage to Mecca". The man then replied, "You are correct."

Umar spoke on how he found it strange the man would ask such a question, and then tell the Prophet he got it right.**This is an example of proper mentorship, praise the student/childs success**. The man then asked, "What is Iman?", the Prophet replied, "Iman is that you believe in Allah, all of the Angels, and the books that were revealed in Allah, and the prophets and measengers those books were revealed upon. You must believe in the last day, that when you die you will be judged on the final day. That you must believe in the Covet, and that everything has been predestined and preordained before it happned". The man replied, "You are correct". Then the man asked "What of Ihsan? What is Ihsan?", the Prophet replied, "You worship Allah as if you see him, and even if you dont see him, know for sure he sees you". "You are correct", the man says. "When is the hour? When is the last day?", Muhammed replied, "I do not know more than the one questioning me". "Well if you do not know, what are some of the signs of the last day?", The Man asked. Muhammed replied, "Some of the signs, you will see the enslaves girl, givinng birth to her master, you will see the barefoot naked Arabs build towers taller and taller.", After this, the man left. Umar the narrator spoke on this as well, stating "I sat with Muhammad for some time, and then he spoke to me, asking 'Do you know who the questioner was?', I told him Allah and his messenger know best. 'That was Jabreel, the one who came to tell you of your religion'"
