a conversation with a plant

for an art project, i have to create sounds with a plant. a song, probably, but i wanted to interview the plant i was working with before going off and making some random song about them. i mean, i dont know their aspirations, what they like, what they hate- what if they hated the song i made for them? the running issue was that there was a language barrier between them and i, i cannot speak plant language, and they cannot speak human language, so i devised an idea around this.

plants carry tiny amounts of electrical unit in their systems, and with a biodata sonification unit, these can be put into a real, actual sound. so cool?!?!?

i was granted permission to mess with, and i brought the swaggy tech in, and hooked up my plant of choice. i cant remember the scientific name, but i asked for their name, which it responded with an eletrical bass-sounding noise and some echo'd bounces. i thought it was a very intriguing name, and i asked-

"how do you get your plants to be so red? its a very good fit."

the bouncing ensued, like someone hitting a pan to a metal tube, and there was this sort of electrical screech.

i started listing songs, because it felt like communication was on a yes/no basis, i played small examples of various genres and explained to go all screechy again to the ones you like. the plant screeched to the following genres:

polka, jazz, folk, doo-wop, gospel, funk, disco, house, ska, bolero, mambo, bossa nova, synth-pop, psy trance.

the plant has range either way, for someone who makes a lot of clanging and screeching, i at least expected rock, but it was no issue. i had the answer to my initial question though, and so i understood a general idea of what song i should make for this plant, but i had another question? do i keep running through and letting them screech until i get one left, or should i ask if they cared? do they love all the music the same? do they even care? its so hard writing a song for someone.

i paid my fairwells and thanked them for the talk, which i was met with the bass sounding bouncing tube thing again, which i disconnected everything and left. now i need to write a song for this screechy plant, which really makes me wanna write rock because of how often itd screech, but ill have to think on it for now.
