Using spacehey for the first time, any gals/gyaru on here? :p

Hey there! Don't know if this is in the right category but I felt like it fit. :p I'm super interested in gal fashion and style, but as a westerner I don't really meet many interested too so I thought I'd post here! I'm new to the fashion myself, only really trying it out for a few months so far, so I'm looking for tips and other gyaru! As a babygal (is that the right term? lol) I wanna learn more about the fashion, and all the music and stuff.

i'm super into harajuku fashion in general, but my style is more on the darker/gothic side, so i might not be the best person to ask, but what kinds of things are you wanting to know more about? my sister is much more into gyaru than i am so i could ask her some questions as well :>

Oo awesome! I was wondering mostly about fashion brands that you can still get stuff from, and like where to find other gyaru or any j-fashion really, and also if people blend styles together? :o

ahh okay! i can give you a few websites i use, some are asian websites and take forever to ship though so keep that in mind :) ALSO its been a while since ive been on these websites so some of them might be specifically for lolita fashion, but if I remember right most are for harajuku fashion in general?? (some are also just general websites with a variety of things sold)

- mercari (specifically the japanese version!! just add ".jp" :D you can translate the page w/ google translate, it should come up automatically, but if not it's on the upper right corner of your screen on pc)
- depop
- aliexpress
- devilinspired (this one takes forever to ship, my sister recommended me to use it specifically as a reference for things to buy and not necessarily where to buy things directly)
- au boudoir d'Alice (if i remember well this is mostly for lolita)

again, i'm more into lolita/ouji fashion myself but i will ask my sister where she looks and update you then :> good luck!!!!

also for the last question, people mix styles a lot!! i imagine its not any different for gyaru especially because the whole basis of it was to go against beauty standards in japan, so going against the "rules" i'd think is completely fine (plus you're wearing it, so in general you should wear what feels good to you :D)

Oh wow awesome! Thanks for all the recs, I really appreciate it :> Can't wait to check those out! So the subcultures are more relaxed? I like a lot of different styles so that works for me then, I find the rokku styles and darker stuff cool but I also love the more modern gyaru style, so it's good to hear mixing is fine! Is there any more history about the style I should know? I read up all about the gyaru history, and how it developed, but I don't know if I'm missing anything lol. :p

ok so i asked my sister for a bit more info and apparently the community is kinda toxic and will post you on 4chan if you don't fit their standards 〒▽〒 but that definitely shouldn't stop you from expressing yourself how you want!! my sister got posted on 4chan because they "didn't like her handwarmers" so honestly you cant win, might as well just dress how you want :) esp since the fashion started as something against fixed standards. i hope that doesn't discourage you from getting more into gyaru tho because the harajuku fashion community is really fun to be a part of when you find the right people!! my sister said she'd send me some links and stuff for gyaru information, i might message it to you tho since i think it might be easier :> (if you're comfortable with that)

Oh okay wow- I had no idea about the 4chan thing! Thats bad, but theres still a lot of nice people in the community right? Like your sister seems pretty nice and Ive seen some really friendly gyaru on other social medias. But yeah even knowing that I'm still super interested in it! I've always seen people having sm fun in harajuku styles and the outfits are always so cool :o And about the links, I don't mind you messaging me some!! I'm down to any links learning more about gyaru and the substyles and all, always looking to learn more about it!! ^^
