currently reading ..🙇🏽‍♀️

Just some little thoughts about the book I’m reading right now. It’s called Dusk over the Mustard Fields by Ranjit Powar. For some backstory - this book is about a 16 year old Sikh Panjabi girl who is living in pre-partition Panjab. It’s about how she navigates her life after she gets married, how her family and society treats her, and I believe also her journey as the Panjab Pakistan partition takes place.

So far I like the book..! I’m only on chapter 7 right now I think, and it’s honestly a little sad to me because this was and still is the reality for young girls in Panjab. They were only teenagers married off to young adult men and in other cases men who are even older, and shown no remorse by those men and their families simply because they’re still girls who are expected to act like fully matured women. All of that said, Powar’s world building is amazing - her description of pre-partition Panjab is what I was most excited to read. She has not disappointed!!!!

I’ll post more as I continue to read <3
