Straight-edge punk is a punk movement that started in the 70's/80's which focuses on adopting a sober lifestyle by abstaining from drugs and alcohol, and sometimes meat and promiscuous sex, while still remaining punk.
New sincerity is a musical/literary movement which focuses on rejecting ironic detachment/subversion of expectations in favor of just being genuine. Basically it subverts your expectations by NOT subverting your expectations.
What do both these movements have in common? They both rebel in a sort of "anti-rebellion". They both subvert your expectations by NOT subverting your expectations. They both avoid the suicidal hopelessness and ironic cynicism that pervades our decade.
god i fucking hate using big words to prove my point BUT YES

the New Sincerity movement sounds great omg.
i've had such an issue with feeling like i need an ironic disclaimer on everything i like but it's exhausting to insult your own interests that way, and i've recently decided to unapologetically like what i like. the New Sincerity movement feels like that to me
