running shoes are stupidly expensive??

i went to a gym store and to check out a pair of running shoes (because i go to the gym and i wanted to start running) so i got a pair of asics, tried them on, and they felt AMAZING. it was like if i had little springs in my feet and running felt AWESOME. I asked the clerk how much were they. 140 DOLLARS FOR A PAIR OF SHOES THAT LOOKS LIKE MY DAD WOULD WEAR. ofc i was gonna use them for the gym but COME ON
