tips for thrifting !!!

i've seen a lot of people say they can never find anything at thrift stores and i've left these comments in the past too. a lot of it is luck, but i have gotten a lot better at actually finding stuff !!

1) manage your expectations. don't go in with dreams of big thrift hauls like on social media. for me it isn't common to get more than two pieces of clothing or accessories in a day.

2) find the right thrift store. no two thrift stores are the same! each one has their own target demographic, which isn't necessarily you and that's ok. my best experience has been with volunteer run thrift stores that donate their profits to charity. they tend to be on the cheaper side, but still have decent quality stuff and also a lot of variety. more vintage focused stores are also ok but i find them to be a lot more expensive (and not always as vintage as they claim they are). they're still worth checking out, though.

3) come there often. kinda speaks for itself, it may take a while for something truly special to arrive. you don't need to be there every day tho .... once a month is kinda what i do

4) actually enjoy thrifting. as i stated in point 1 usually the rewards of thrifting aren't very high. if you don't actually enjoy the process of sifting through old clothes and other junk it might get tiring fast and that's totally ok. you might want to check out apps like depop and vinted though :3

i hope this helps? srry if it doesn't xd
