Yesterday I was drinking some of that Starbucks bottled iced coffee
stuff and forgot I didn't have the lid on. Shook it up before taking a
drink and everything left in the bottle went all over my setup. Yeah,
I'm kind of a fucking retard. It completely soaked both my Playstations,
ruined an instruction manual, got gunk all over my very expensive
FEISAR Dualshock 4, had to wipe down both my monitors several times, and
there's still massive stains on the walls as I'm writing this.
Surprisingly,
most of it's undamaged (it all got sent in the air and rained down so
most of it was just little drops, only my PS4 actually got covered in
the stuff and that was an easy clean). But my keyboard. The keyboard I
paid like 100 to 200 US dollars for when it was new. The Strafe Mk 2?
Nope, gone.
Again it was just droplets on the keyboard so most of
it should be intact. I don't think the PCB is broken. But prettymuch
all the MX Red switches in and above the home row are fuuuuucked.
Unplugged it as fast as I could, came back to test it after it dried a
little and it was mostly fine but pressing certain keys would trigger
the key adjacent to the right as well about 20% of the time.
So I
take all the keys off by hand (where the hell did my key puller go??)
and deep clean the keyboard with some towels and compressed air, which I
hadn't done once since I got it a couple years ago, so it was
desperately needed. Had to scrape off some of the coffee gunk and lint
in a few corners because it was stuck down. Didn't look too bad though.
Plug
the keyboard back in, and now it's keymashing for me 24/7. Completely
unusable. I'm currently using my older Apex 3 board while typing this
right now, and I haven't used this membrane board in forever. It's way
too clicky, I got used to it fast for just typing but it wears out my
fingers fast. Trying to auto-bhop in Quake or CS is really tiring with
this thing.
Wanting to fix my Strafe Mk2 when I can, or just
replace it, but I can't right now. I don't have the tools or money. Why
did this have to happen while I'm unemployed?
Don't trust me with bottle drinks! (RIP keyboard 2021 - 2023)
