record stores in my city

i went out with a friend to a bunch of record stores (and other shops) in my city and the experience was rather hit or miss. the first place i went to had a large selection of classic rock albums but their modern rock section was lacking. they lumped "modern rock/indie/new age together which was frustrating. the only thing there that drew my attention at all was a decemberists record.

the second place had a better selection, and cds as well, a whole wall of them! it was fun to browse through them all and i picked up a copy of "how strange, innocence" by explosions in the sky. they also had pins so i grabbed a couple; a bright eyes, and a modest mouse pin.

there was a used book store next door so we went there as well. neither of us ended up getting anything but the store itself was super interesting! they had three levels, with a narrow spiral staircase.

after that we went to a vintage mall around the corner. this place frustrated me to no end though. everything in there was overpriced to hell. it felt like every clothing item i looked at was over $100. i get that well made clothing isn't produced anymore but its still kind of pathetic to see. there's a good chance it was all snapped up from the goodwill bins and is being resold for exorbitant amounts.

after that we hit up our third and final record store. this place was huge and had a massive selection of modern rock albums of all types. they also had a decent """punk""" section which wasn't organized at all. who tf puts "modern baseball" in the punk section?? they had a lot of new releases including represses from numero group, so i picked up a CD copy of stratosphere by duster.

for the final stop we went to a bookstore- nothing super of note happened there, other than picking up a copy of dreams by jung (which has been on my radar for a while). at that point i was getting exhausted and was ready to go home.

if i worked at a record store i'd spend all my spare time there sorting the albums meticulously. i hate when an album is placed into the wrong genre or gets knocked forward potentially damaging the one in front. and i hope one day i'll finally get to go to a record store with a dedicated emo/post-hardcore section.

There's a used media store I like to go to, they sell pretty musch everything (music formats, games, movies, ect.) but their music section is cool because they ONLY buy and sell alternative music. From the words of staff they only want stuff that is "hard, loud or fast" which is perfect to me because that's all I'm looking for!

yeah its mostly clothes from the 80s-90s and old furniture and stuff. however, there were also shops that were just like. cheap modern garbage? like earrings from aliexpress and shops with modern prints in them
