i have 4 of them in my magazine collection,, its always so crazy to read through old magazines (especially when they're centric to my music taste) because i forget that all my favorite music isn't really lined up with the current time. all my favorite albums came out when these magazines were published & the bands that put those records out were still together & relevant. some of the articles are really funny and enjoyable to read.
still, its so weird to see adverts for bands and records that to me- are 18 years old, but to the teenager who read them originally in 2005 (or whenever) would have been brand new- or just then coming out & that kid probably got really excited and saw the band play that record live.
makes me a little sad to think that most of these bands, i will never see live, nor will they put out any new music. its over-said but it really makes me wish i was a teenager when all my favorite bands were putting out music & touring. sure- there are really good bands that play & put out music now but its really not the same. with technology & changing trends- i'll never get what the teenager who read this magazine in 2003 got. i'll never be a true trashy emo teen.
i do rejoice in that a little bit though considering how shitty the emo & post-hardcore etc. scene was to girls and all. i guess if i had a few wishes to spare i would wish to go back and have some fun in 2003 (without the shit.) for now- i watch old live videos, read old magazines & interviews & wonder what could have been if my mom was pregnant at 15 (kidding, that would not be ideal.)
in other news that happens to be on the same-ish wavelength- ive noticed the scene/emo trend seems to have died down a little (mostly on the app that shall not be named.) emo & scene creators' have recently been talking about their declining following & iv'e seen some people shy away from the scene- deleting their "old" emo content or deleting accounts all together.
it's a little bit sad that everything's died down- but it shows you who's in it for the long(er) run and who never really cared to begin with (although i think sometimes it was pretty obvious).
i'm a little bitter about it because of how annoying these "band-wagon-ing" kids were about "real" scene and emo (because 99% they didn't really know what they were talking about)- but i'm trying not to take that position (because fuck elitists.) i think everyone had their annoying new kid phase when they started out- but when it became a "trend" it was a whopping influx of these "new kid on the block" types that really ticked me off to start.
its nice that people are being "weeded out" and the cool lot stayed. obviously- not saying that everyone who turned onto the trend when it began is a "poser" (typing that out gives me horrid flashbacks lmao)- but it's certainly nice to see that people who did originally join during that are actually starting to listen to some good bands. finally more friends to talk to about PKLL and From A Second Story Window etc (yay!).
with everyone being either staying or leaving i hope people stop overpricing old band merch & cool clothes. please. i am scraping around for cash so i can try and buy a cool say anything hoodie. grasping at my pennies. clutching at my crumbled $1 bills, dude.
that's all i had to say. dont take anything i say seriously please. just had to share a couple thoughts i often have when cracking open and old music magazine.
XoXo MIA
edit: a little funny but right after posting one of my fave scene girls posted about losing 600 followers

I believe that this is all very real and true, mía. Maybe one day I’ll build a Time Machine and we can be girlfriends in 2005
