i was gonna make this a bulletin, but it got too long...
really do not like the spam of drama/callout blogs and discourse around 'problematic users' in the blogs, or specifically, the front page blogs. so i've figured it's time to kill it.
the problem with callout blogs
1. impossible standards
(this is more of a purity culture issue, but it feeds directly into callout culture, and it's the main cause of this. seriously, some of you need to understand & unlearn purity culture.)
depending on where you are, there's a bar of standards, for which if you don't meet that bar, you'll get exiled. this can be a good thing, but a lot of mainstream, specifically gen-z, online spaces have the bar set really fucking high, so high that it covers a lot of stuff that pretty much all of us have done online at some point. if you've been on the internet for >3 years, you've probably done something deemed "irredeemable" by callout bloggers.
a list of 'main reasons' i have seen before in callouts (most are from other sites): no age in bio; using AO3; white using AAVE - "lit" and "slay" were examples; used to believe something harmful, doesn't anymore (wayyyy too many times); shipping two siblings; not using tone tags
and of course, every sinner must be punished, no matter the offense! so let's all treat fujoshis the same way as pedos. surely this is the right thing to do.
it's also pretty easy to callout someone too. just get to know them for a while, eventually they'll trust you and reveal something, then, screenshot everything, make a long post, and you have successfully destroyed someone's online life and probably mental health.
let's also not forget how this high bar of standards can be (and often is) exploited by abusers to alienate their victims. keep that in mind.
2. "get help"
often to skirt around accusations of harassment, callout bloggers will often try to use the excuse that they're simply trying to "reach out" or "get help". the thing is...
i am not aware of any instance where attempts by callout bloggers to "get help" has actually been successful on their target.
and it always leads to worse harassment. i've seen users on this very site track down & contact targets' family members, schools, etc. under the guise of "reaching out". this is not help, this is real-life harassment. i know jinx used to do this a lot, and it never ended well.
3. mob mentality
"if you're still added to xyz, don't add me..." blah blah blah stop ittttt "you have 24 hours to unfriend xyz or i'm blocking" most chronically online words ever spoken.
longer tables not higher walls. both queen of the floof & the user who made her callout post are in my friends list. deal with it.
and how to fix it:
1. interact with literally anything else
friends don't let friends rage out in the comments. discourse boosts engagement more than any other topic. so? don't feed the trolls. don't comment or add your take on an already oversaturated drama. sometimes the only winning move is not to play.
you are not obligated to comment on anything. you are not obligated to 'spread the word' about something that's already hit the front page twice.
unlike other platforms, spacehey has little power in terms of algorithm. it is what you make it. if you're having a good time it's because that's what you're looking for. if you think spacehey is toxic, you've just surrounded yourself with toxicity. you can fine-tune friends and feeds just fine here.
2. don't be invasive
time for some one-on-one, reader.
if someone talks about their dark moments, don't use it as an excuse to 'expose' them. understand that behind the avatar is a real life human fucking being.
anyone who cares about someone's wellbeing will not air every private 'problematic' detail for the world to see.
in conclusion (is anyone still reading this)
ppl here have a tendency to overreact (no spacehey is not going to die forever) the reason why dramablogs hit the frontpage so often is because people react to them so much.
it'll grow and shrink throughout the years as new people come and go
the important thing is that spacehey needs to build its own identity so that it can't be a field day for trolls and callout bloggers. and it's kind of already doing that! but it needs to go a bit further.
remember 2 have fun everyone.

b4 I knew I was trans, I was a self proclaimed "Fujoshi" on Quotev. Instead of educating little 9 year old me on a website I shouldn't be on about how it's bad to be one, I was instead harassed on a website that was comfortable for me. People spammed me, everyone made fun of my art, but they did all of that but didn't say what a fujoshi was and how it was wrong to be one. I learned the hard way about what I was doing was fetishistic and I often think back on that. I was a kid who didn't know what I was doing or saying because of the people around me. Usually when people harass a creator, they state what was wrong with them, but no, I just got some online group of friends insulting me, spamming me, and not telling me what I did wrong. There are cases where the people have no clue what they're doing, so INFORM them before taking such drastic action. Don't be a d!ck for no reason.

plus it doesnt even work/deal with the problem it just supports and boost there page. if you where actually against this person then you would block and report and not interact.

I very much agree. I don't fw a lot of fujos or proshippers but I'm not going to go out of my way to make a callout post. It's unnecessary, and it really doesn't change what their mentality will be. Making a callout post won't change these peoples minds, so why bother? All you're doing is stirring up unnecessary drama yk? If you don't like someone, then just block them? What happened to silently blocking and moving on? Or not feeding the troll? I feel like people nowadays are too focused on purity culture and having a savior mindset that they feel like it's their duty to inform everyone (mainly their friends) that they may be interacting with someone they personally deem immoral. All I'm saying is if I don't like someone, I'll just block them and move on. If my friends are following someone I don't like, depending on the severity I'll leave it at that or just unadd my friends. No need to make it a public spectacle you know.

(I'm really talking about the younger half of gen Z that just thinks its okay to call out anyone and everyone that doesn't fit into their mold of what they deem "correct")

i forget that spacehey even has a "front page" or whatever for blog posts
i rarely ever even know what people are talking abt in their blogs/bulletins in regards to trolls or drama...it is really easy to curate ur online experience to just Not see the stuff u dont wanna see
if i thiink people are being annoying i un-add them
i dont accept requests from people without age in their bio and i typically dont add people under 18-19 unless i specifically enjoy what theyre posting about or think theyre cool, this is my own preference and like it is perfectly valid for others to Not follow that rule also
i dunno man
internet weird
i wish people would learn that like. you are allowed and encouraged, even. to just mind your own business
fantastic post my brother 👍
uncoordinated response ! i am tired, forgive the mess
