Spoilers for gg ( idk if you guys watch it but who knows) (look it up if you don’t know what it is)
So as mentioned in my bio I like Gilmore girls but I haven’t resumed it in a long time and I thought I would explain why and just rant about something. Ok so I stopped watching Gilmore girls at about season 5 when Rory goes off to college. Now the reason I watched it in the first place was because my mom said it was good and it’s on Netflix so I thought I would give it a try. The first two seasons surprised me because it was really fun and witty and the characters are fun and interesting.
We meet the two main characters Lorelei a laid back single mom with a lot of opinions and traits, and Rory and sweet coffee addict smart girl who is the daughter of Lorelei. They live in a small town in Massachusetts and Rory need money to get into a prestigious school for college credit. So Lorelei asks her parents who are stupid rich to help them. They do but on one condition that they have to visit every Friday and eat dinner with them. There are also other characters and love interests that change each season.
So season one Rory dates dean who is the most annoying prick in the fucking world oml he is so annoying especially in the first and second seasons. This was my first ick about gg after dean was introduced.
Now to season 5 Ik that’s a jump but now that the recap is over I can explain why it’s boring now.
NOTHING IS HAPPENING AND RORY IS SOO DUMB FOR NO REASON. Rory this season is not a good friend and now that she’s in college nothin interesting is happening because the whole appeal of the show was about them living in their small town. But now it’s only Lorelei lives in their small town and they also cut off my favorite relationship Jess and Rory now I’m gonna tell you a bit about Jess rq.
Jess loves to read, loves punk music would probably love Arctic monkey’s and the cure. He also reads romance novels like Jane Austin. He respects Rory and her dreams, he’s a bit of a trouble maker pulling pranks around town. He super sarcastic and witty just like everyone else. He has this romantic personality and is just perfect.
Ok back to it in this season Rory dates Logan who isn’t that bad but is pompous and rich. He’s cute don’t get me wrong but he’s just meh compared to Jess. So far their relationship is okay but hasn’t gone anywhere. Rory complains about everything and is just acting like a brat to her roommates. Lorelei is Lorelei and it seems like every damn episode someone has to get into a fight or be mad about something or hold a grudge against someone for no reason. One of Rory’s best friends who is arguably the best character is Lane she loves rock music and defying her restricting mother. She’s now in a band and lives with 2 guys. In the season prior lane was in a relationship with this guy Dave who was the sweetest boyfriend in the show but they just threw that story line away after that season and Dave never returns. Which makes me mad because there was never a reason why they did that. (Justice for Dave)
Anyway Rory never keeps up with lane and doesn’t go over or anything.
Now on to the grandparents, that season both Emily and Richard who are rich and entitled they don’t really care about Lorelei or show that they love her. They like to insert themselves into Lorelei and Rory’s lives without asking.
The rest is boring nonsense that I don’t care about, with rewatch you realize that Lorelei and Rory are kind of toxic in the way they treat each other and others.
The format of Gilmore girls is that with each season a big event or major conflict happens at the end of the season. The season starts out happy or sad depending what happened in the prior season and then someone lies or offends someone and that starts the major conflict making the characters irritable by the end of the season the characters have to make a big decision or resolve their problem. But in season 5 that happens in EVERY EPISODE. Something always have to be wrong or someone is just annoyed at and about everything. The format of gg is there to make the seasons interesting the usual problems are either 1. Between Lorelei and Rory 2. Between either of the girls and their current boyfriend 3. Between Lorelei and her parents. Usually ending in a big reveal or confession if not those which opens more problems.
Let’s take season 1 for example the end of that season has Rory telling the devil himself dean how she feels about him the main conflict of this season is a 1 if you look back at what I said earlier that means it’s between Lorelei and Rory now the reason their the main conflict is because Rory is mad at Lorelei for not telling her who she started dating and kept it from Rory. The person in question was actually Rory’s English teacher which made her even more mad, by the end though it’s resolved but something else towards the end of the season brings up another conflict which is a 2 between Rory and dean, which is the worst conflict in the show and I’ll tell you why.
Dean gets mad a Rory because he says I love you and she doesn’t say it back responding with give me time to think about it. Resulting in him breaking up with her and acting like an oversized baby he also does this in the car that he building for her which overwhelms her.
She cries for the next two episodes, the town takes Rory’s side and pushes dean away and tries to shield Rory from accidentally see him. By the end episode she yells at him that she loves him and that’s the end of that season. By season 3 we finally meet Jess which is what makes it all worth it.
Ok this is the end of my huge rant but I did miss quite a few characters like suki and Luke but they aren’t important for the rant as they don’t show up that much in season 5. Lesson learned that dean sucks and later cheats on his wife for Rory so yeah he sucks.
Bye babes 😘
Ps: Jess is 100% better than dean in every way.
