Writing snippet

This is from my novel that I'm currently editing. I thought I'd put this out there. ^^

"Where to?" Nils asked. "I guarantee we can get you there faster than anyone."

"Landesspital Liechtenstein," answered the woman before stepping into the stolen taxi cab. As they took off, the woman buckled her seatbelt. "So uh... how did you know that I needed your service?"

"Well, you see, my friend here's a psychic-in-training," said Nils. "He's here because he's a taxi driver-in-training as well. I'm training him as both a psychic and a taxi driver. Pretty cool, yeah?"

That ought to have been the worst explanation for time traveler antics that Sascha had ever heard. He couldn't help but wonder how this guy had earned his reputation.

"So... you read my mind?" The woman leaned forward in her seat. "That's impressive. How do you train to read minds?"

"Well, it actually takes a strict regiment to begin with. My friend here, Peter, fasted for two days to mentally prepare for today's training. Though his stomach is empty, his mind is full of the thoughts of others. Tonight, he'll have his first meal, then will have to isolate himself and not say a word for a day. It's pretty intense."

"Is that so?"

If Nils weren't behind the wheel, Sascha felt that he would have strangled him.

"Yes, ma'am," said Nils. "Hey Pete, why don't you try reading my mind? What am I thinking right now?"

Sascha flashed him a confused glare, only to get a mischievous wink in return.

"What you're thinking," said Sascha, rubbing his temples and squeezing his eyes shut, still facing Nils. "Oh, wow. Are you sure you want me to say that out loud?"

The woman leaned forward in her seat, either clearly buying it or convincingly playing along. Sascha turned around to face the woman, wide-eyed and holding back a smile as he broke the fake news.

"He thinks you're... gorgeous, for lack of better words."

If he was going to play along with Nils' sick idea of a joke, he should at least make him regret everything.
