If you've ever seen a movie where a helicopter just spins out of control for the tiniest and stupidest reason, yeah that's pretty accurate. You can literally die just from a sneeze or scratching an itch.
I wasn't scared being up there, but I DEFINITELY had this realization of, "Ohhhhhh, so that joke WASN'T entirely a joke, helicopters really do just.... Crash all of the time." Well not all of the time but you know what I mean.
My instructor was telling me how one time a student let go of the cyclic for a literal second just to scratch his nose, and they immediately started to head for the ground and it was a pretty dangerous ordeal.
And I told him, "Wait.... So what if you sneeze!?" and he juat looks at me and goes, "....Don't".
Ahhhhh, so then I realized why the FAA is so goddamn strict when it comes to allergies. I remember jokingly saying, "Damn, you can't even sneeze or else you'll lose your license!" and for a helicopter, that could actually be true. Wow.
Well, aside from all of that I DEFINITELY would still wanna get my helicopter rating once I finish with the single-engine fixed-wing training. Dude, Cessnas are so chill. You don't have to keep your hands on the control yoke all of the time, and they just stay in the air with little guidance.
A helicopter is the complete opposite. It's almost like it inherently hates you, haha. Also really love the contrast between landing a plane Vs a helicopter. With the plane, it's "HIT THE BRAKES AS HARD AS YOU CAN!!!!!" and with the helicopter it's like "careful.... Just a breath .... Juuuuust a teensy little nudge aaannndd.... Done."
