my perspective on fakeclaiming

hi!! as per usual, im talking about stuff i see on the internet because i feel like it 383

while fakeclaiming as a whole is a heavily debated topic, i just wanted to add my two senses as someone who watched from the backlines.

if you don't know me, i have diagnosed DID. that is, by a professional, over the course of several years as is custom for minors being diagnosed. all tests have come back positive. however, i don't talk about my DID much publicly because. well. people just really like to fakeclaim?? and to be honest it's gotten really annoying.

while i can see that those who actively participate in fakeclaimiing usually mean good intentions, i feel the intention in question is flipped on itself when you start pointing fingers at ACTUAL professionally diagnosed people on the internet. please always keep in mind that you don't know someone personally, therefore you cannot dictate how they live their life and the labels they choose to use. while i hate people who fake mental illness as much as the next guy, I feel its dehumanizing and devaluing to peoples unique experiences.

i personally will not and never will fakeclaim someone who claims to have any dissociative identity disorder without circumstantial proof and you shouldn't either! it's as simple as respecting peoples boundaries and identities. after all, it's so much easier to navigate life once you choose to approach it with a positive, open perspective rather than attacking every leaf that blows.
