I use both babe and dear. To me dear is more personal though, like it only feels right to say once we've been together for awhile and we're really into eachother.

idk but "babe", "bae", and "shorty" sound way more relaxed, less dated (and maybe even more natural) than "darling", "my love", or "dear".
