Aardonyx
ar-don-ix
"Earth Claw"
This dinosaur would have been mostly bipedal prosauropod*, meaning it walked on two legs, but still had the capability to walk on all fours. This characteristic and the way it ate are transitional features between basal sauropodomorphs** and later sauropods***.
Aardonyx is only known from two immature specimens, located in South Africa where they would have roamed. They had a herbivorous diet, meaning they ate plants and vegetation. They lived during the early Jurassic, about 199-198 million years ago.
*small ancestor of sauropods that walked on two legs and had shorter necks
**dinosaurs with small heads, longer necks, and smaller overall bodies
***large herbatious dinosaurs with long necks and tails, small heads, and large bodies, commonly recognized as the largest dinosaurs
