when i was little i used to have an unhealthy obsession with dinosaurs. i just LOVED paleontology. archaeology was cool too, i got so excited when we learned about ancient stuff in social studies. i used to tell people i would be a PALEONtologist, and would get so pissy when called an ARCHAEologist. the obsession wore down in 4th-6th grade and i'm starting to get back into it again.
i don't know exactly when this happened, and quite frankly i don't care. maybe it was when i heard a new dinosaur species was discovered, or when i stumbled upon an akylosaurus facts video. i'm just so happy i'm obsessing over dinosaurs again. it makes me feel like a kid. it's not that i stopped liking dinosaurs, i just focused on other things for a while. whenever something's dinosaur themed i'm more inclined to want it. but now i want to learn about dinosaurs. again.
i'm so obsessed i made a "which dinosaur are you?" quiz on uquiz.com (it's not done yet, i'll post the link when i'm done tho!). i played with my near and dear dinosaur models. i still continue, and will never discontinue to cuddle with my stuffed t. rex, Dinie. all my dinosaur things are a part of me. i even call myself Dino online.
i like archaeology too. getting sidetracked by this article https://www.sciencealert.com/corridor-discovered-in-great-pyramid-could-be-protecting-the-actual-burial-chamber is the reason i decided to write this. i was literally hyperventilating while watching the video in the article. if there's any archaeology topics i'm most excited to learn, it's egyptology. i just think it's neat. my science teacher put on an old documentary about king tut's tomb and the next day she didn't put it on and i was so upset. we weren't done with the documentary and she just left it off at the part they open his sarcophagus???? but hey, at least we're watching osmosis jones now.
also, i didn't mention this earlier because i never stopped loving it, but i just enjoy looking and learning art. in ELA we're analyzing a set of poems and art for black history month and i'm more focused on the art, specifically Jacob Lawrence. i have a new visual artist obsession lasting 2-3 months, and intervals are as long as i check out a bunch of random artists. we had a hispanic heritage month project in spanish class and i did mine on salvador dali. i put so much effort into my slideshow and i really enjoyed making it. did you know salvador dali, the guy who made the persistance of memory, aka the melting clock painting, also designed the chupa chups logo? he also partnered with disney in 1945-1946 to create destino, a 7-minute long movie (production ceased after 8 months due to financial issues during WWII, but was later picked back up in 1999). after that, salvador dali officially joined my favorite artists list.
i have a lot of favorite artists, and keith haring is definitely at the top. i fell in love with his art during a GATE project (yes, i was a GATE kid. i could go into detail about that another day) where we had to imitate his simple, colorful style. and i had an art assignment where we had to imitate his style, only this time our work had to be about cultural issues, much like keith's work. his work isn't the kind of art that would influence my own art, but it does fill me with such joy to see it. i saw a kid with a keith haring hoodie and went absolutely nuts. i want keith haring merch so bad you have no idea. if i had any piece of his work in any form i would be so much happier.
and did i mention music artists? i freaking love music. i think if i wasn't a visual arts person i would be a musical art person. i have a new music artist obsession all the time. my current one is sublime and my last one was system of a down. all my shirts are band tees. my favorite bands are, in no particular order (except for green day), green day, the offspring, blink-182, sublime, nirvana, system of a down, queen, my chemical romance, and lagwagon (plzplzplz check out lagwagon i love them so much). oh and also i used to be obsessed with lorde and katy perry when i was little. didn't stop me from listening to my parents' mixtapes though.
btw in case anyone was wondering i got 156 on the RAADS test
