i've just realized i've never talked about culture and like where im from even tho its a huge part of me like my name dami which is shortened from oluwadamilola which is a mouthful fun fact its not even my first name its actually my middle name lol i don't really like my first name it isn't bad i feel like dami even tho it is traditionally a girls name i feel more connected to it especially in terms of my gender (im genderfuild i think...?)
anyways even tho i love being nigerian there are some things in my culture or at least the culture i grew up with that i dont necessarily agree with like most of the country putting gay people in prision treating them inhumanely ect ect im not going to get into those topics today cuz i do not feel like being sad today, i just wanted to say this cuz no one country is perfect and i have definitely been affected by these things so im gonna show you my fav food, clothes and song from culture 😍 also im not an expert obvs im just nigerian lmao
cultural clothes
these are traditional wedding clothes however clothes can vary from region to region in nigeria as there are many different tribes like yoruba, edo, hausa, igbo and many more im from the yoruba tribe and my family speaks yoruba, im pretty sure these clothes are yoruba traditional clothes i cant be 1000% sure tho they look similar to all the clothe ive seen and to my parent wedding clothes
many of these clothes are not commonly worn outside of big events like a wedding, birthday or funeral, especailly in the younger generations there have modern twist to traditional clothes, for example making blouses/modern dresses out of african prints e.g
food (my fav part)
this my favourite part food is just that good in nigeria most food is eaten with hands and shared with your family on one plate, you can eat certain foods with untensils but the most common and traditional way is with the hands
the most common food (i think...)
this is pounded yam with egusi soup the with stuff it made of pounded yams (wow...), im pretty sure the egusi soup is made of melons (i didnt even know that until one vid from matpat 😭) it is eaten with hands and is a pretty common dish i think at least ITS SO GOOD IM SOO HUNGRY RN!!!
the next ones are more like snacks and still are really good!!
this is chin chin its kind of like a cookie like in smaller pieces a nigerian wedding starter classic
this is puff puff its kind of like a fried doughnut with nutmeg or like beignets from the princess and the frog movie (i havent watched it yet...) so good another classic
lol this is the end i would made it loger but i ran out of time i have hw to do lol im make a part 2 maybe with more deeper reasearch about nigeria/benin and more of the dark colonization that influences nigeria today i guess it would be good timing with the nigerian elections underway and them being know to be corrupt
anyways i hope u enjoyed and have good day :)
also you can also give me feedback on any of the things i missed out that u may want me to include especially if you nigerian and from another tribe cuz i wanna include as much as i can :D
