Stretching the Perception of Identity

I was always fascinated with people I met who had a persona that broke and warped the rules of what is acceptable and normal for a person to be in their attire, and beyond.

I photographed these amazing people, mostly with a goth or alternative vibe, and I was amazed at how they were so free with their persona, and not afraid, but on the contrary, felt somehow protected by being out in the open vulnerable and maybe the center of attention. Is there somehow a lack of fear, or is it something more complex?

I dunno. It doens't matter. It just matters that I'm inspired by what inspires me. Many people can't even feel inspired.

I think I've always naturally gravitated toward whatever breaks the facade of every day crap life.

i feel this. expressing identity outwardly and creatively surprisingly is more of a mental shield than conforming could ever be, and actively denying a hivemind mentality allows for the breaking of so many barriers, within the self and society at large.
