This entire episode is wrapped around Beemo’s song, accepting change. Through the lyrics ``what happens, happening happens.” This was also something Finn needed to accept, that things change and things happen that he cannot control, everyone needs to learn that. Adventure time was always good at teaching lessons that would benefit everyone. How to be brave, how to accept defeat, how to give in, how to be your own hero.
I think the wide portrayal of good and bad, with even the worst of the worst having a good side added an even more realistic portrayal.
It also provides an amazing conclusion for wrapping up main points, that needing help isn't weak, that love is strong, that sometimes trying your hardest isn't good enough and that's okay. One of the main lyrics in the song is “We’ll happen again and again” going back to the beginning of the episode with 2 new characters that represent Jake and Finn. Their friendship never dies out, love, community, and music doesn't die out. Fern becoming a home for love and friendship is another example of it never really ending, their story repeats over and over again. The energy they put into their friendships and love can never just disappear, it rebirths as something new, as new love and friendship. Adventure time is a realistic coming of age with fantasy and go-luckiness, but it has always been realistic. I think bee mo telling this story thousands of years later adds to that, to that sometimes after a big life changing experience, life just carries on. Everyone lives and dies, the love they once carried never does however. Also, their memories carry on within their loved ones, within bee mo and now these 2 new characters. No matter how small the memories you pass on may be, they still do pass on. It is also encouragement to live, to live your best life and spread good things so you have more positivity to give out into the world when you pass, but also while you live. Finn was always very positive, but realistic portrayal of a kid, he went through a depressive episode after losing his arm. Finn was the portrayal of a kid suffering through life, losing an arm can be anything within the viewer's life.
I could go on for hours about how many life lessons each episode has to offer and how I genuinely believe someone should watch this show at least once in their life. But in conclusion, this show taught us how to be imperfect, how to make mistakes, how to learn, and how to grow. This last episode was a changing point for the characters, but also for us. For people who grew very attached to adventure time, this was a change. No more episodes, no more characters we had grown to love. But it also left on a good note, that change is not always bad, that change just happens and we must roll with it sometimes. That also our love never goes away, we always repeat, whether within memories or lives beyond ourselves.
