Originally this was going to be a bulletin and then i realized NO!!! Too good and too important to me to only be on spacehey for 10 days. This shits going on a blog entry!!!
Other than the obligatory OMG DISNEY MOVIES!! everyone watched as a child theres also some weird ones too which would make you realize "Oh!! thats why you're like that!!!". I also lived under a rock at the time so you're gonna see some shit. Some things might unlock core memories for you idfk!!
I had to pull out my DVD binder to do this because I have some memory problems during those times (traumatic amnesia). Lets start with the first one
Cats (1998)
Now if you watch this movie you might think, "Wow!! You shouldn't show this to kids!!" And you'd be right. I watched this every night as a 5 year old because a dish channel continued to show it at night. This was also probably when I first got my insomnia because I had a CRTV that would reset itself at night straight at 3AM on the dot and I would always wake up before it would do that and- thats probably why I'm so paranoid. I think.
ANYWAYS. The eroticism and homo-eroticism is RAMPANT in this movie. This movie has done more to contribute to my furry phase than the Warrior Cats books have ever done (despite me being fucking obsessed with Warrior Cats Animation Youtube). I think it also made me gay perhaps. I had a major crush on The Rum Tum Tugger (who wouldnt), and if I wasn't such a bitch I would probably kin Mistoffelees.
The songs? Bangers. They use jazz, acapella. Other good shit. I love all songs equally. Mungojerrie & Rumpleteazer, Rum Tum Tugger (cant go wrong), Macavity, Mr. Mistoffelees, Grizabella: The Glamour Cat. The most remember-able song however? Memories. There's only a loosely tied plot because the original poems were all just about random cats, technically Macavity is an enemy that was only mentioned once, the ACTUAL plot however is about which Jellicle Cat goes to Heaven!! Thats right! It explains it in the first song, and Memories is the song that culminates this plot. Its about an "ugly" queen cat, ragged and old, used up all of her 9 lives. The song is filled with so much emotion, you can feel how she reminisces to the good old times and how dull she feels now. Its also an operatic song, which you don't really hear now anymore.
Great movie, always will rewatch. I hate the remake with a passion <3
Lion King 1.5
We're getting into fucking weird territory here. I was raised in the weird era were Disney was remaking movies (but the movies still turned out great unlike whats going on right now) and adding sequels to them. Yeah, I watched Lion King: The Original. Not as many times as Lion King 1.5. I didn't even watch Lion King 2 (which, ♠ was obsessed with and probably became an egg through).
Lion King 1.5 focuses on the comedy reliefs and gives them more story. Probably. They're still very much comic reliefs. But they flesh out the characters and follows how they ended up meeting Simba, and after.
Thats not why I watched this shit on repeat though. Remember interactive menus? This was the most interactive shit in the world. It had a small little section called "Virtual Safari". My brother and I played it again and again, we would randomize our routes. It was mostly an interactive movie, kind of. You can see it in action
here.
The movie? Typical of a sequel that focuses on the comic reliefs to turn them into actual characters. Yadda yadda, its great!!
Wall-E
I have refined taste. Wall-E is underrated!!! Even though its a love story theres NO WORDS SPOKEN (most of the time). It's not even a musical. It proves how good at storytelling it is through how the characters act with the environment and surroundings.
First you see recordings of live action humans, so you think theres no animated humans. Wrong!! Yeah the animated humans are kind of weird. They're fat because of how artificial gravity affected their bodies and OMG!! lack of exercise!! Which. Doesn't really age well. But I love how they used IRL human footage for the clear past to show how apocalyptic it is. I understand that one theory about the humans.
And the music they have in this too? They have fucking Lovefool by The Cardigans play on the radio Wall-E uses to try and serenade EVA.
I have a HUGE fear of cockroaches so I cringe every time Wall-E's pet appears, but that doesnt stop me from saying its a great movie!! Fucking battleships explode in the first 20 fucking minutes!! I have figures that came straight from Disney World!! I love the sassy small robot thats obsessed with cleanliness cause its his fucking job!! HES EVERYTHING TO ME.
I also played the Wii game of this.
Megamind
My parents were clearly amazing. Yes I watched Despicable Me, but we bought the DVD for Megamind when it released and my brother and I watched that shit REPEATEDLY. So I was shocked to hearing how everyone missed out on this banger of a movie till a few years ago.
Using "Bad" by Michael Jackson before Despicable Me (they clearly stole the idea), it is the epitome of a family movie. My sense as a child was a little messed up so I didnt understand most of it, but as an adult the jokes? Off the rails. A-tier comedy movie.
They actually show how Megamind's and Roxanne's relationship develops and how much chemistry they have in common, rather than back when movies would throw in a woman with no personality and she would fall in love with the protag within 5 seconds of meeting him.
They also address the "Nice Guy" issue EXCELLENTLY. Hal Stewart gives off red flags every damn time. You wouldn't notice it as a child, but once again as an adult you really start to understand how creepy Hal is to Roxanne. Roxanne has a professional relationship with him, only sees him as a colleague. Because its her job!! Hal invites her to a party where its just "the two of them", while also saying how everyone is going to be there and theres going to be a pool in the same breathe. This man lives in an apartment complex, he's lying.
And yes, the way Hal snaps and becomes a villain as Titan because Roxanne rejected him is very accurate. Bitches do that shit all the time.
I'm glad this movie is finally getting the credit it deserves. And the "presentation" scene never gets old.
Rio
By this point you should be getting the idea of what kind of childhood I had, and why I'm more attracted/drawn to obscure known media, and why I'm so fucking weird.
Will.i.Am and Jamie Foxx are in this. They're a major part of the film.
The songs in here are good. They're very dated since the film came out in 2011. But you know what that doesn't stop? The amazing villian song of Nigel. I love Nigel so much. I miss villians like this.
Its very saddening to see the birds that this movie was trying to raise awareness about become extinct in the wild, so they only exist in captivity now. That was literally why this movie was created.
FIFA hype in this movie btw.
Alpha and Omega
SHUT UP SHUT UP DONT FUCKING SAY IT. I DONT REMEMBER HOW WE GOT THIS DVD. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO SAY. I dont think this was a musical??
Now. The plot of this story is going to sound insane. The alpha, is not the male protag. The alpha is the fem wolf. Im not even going to look up their names. The alphas are supposed to get married to other alphas. Yeah. Anyways thats all im gonna say its hard to explain any of this.
Rise of the Guardians
BACK TO THE BANGERS!!! Despite watching this nonstop I also was NOT there for whatever the hell happened on Tumblr. Capische?
The interpretations are a God send. The tooth fairy and Santa Claus's designs? Absolutely FUCKS!!! I didn't even know who tf the Sandman was! I only knew the Sandman through Metallica!! No one told me he was a fucking folklore character like the rest of them.
Pitch Black is *cheffs kiss* good villian. I love it. I may have not much to say about this movie but I love this movie and I watched it all the time.
Ratatouille
RATATOUILLE IS AMAZING!! I remember every word of the first 20 minutes. As a dude with ARFID this movie made me want to eat every food on the screen.
This movie might be why Clam Chowder is a safe food. Perhaps.
Like I said I dont know wtf was going on in my mind as a kid, so I didnt realize Alfredo Linguini being Chef Gustaeu's kid was a major plot point. I like how they didnt necessarily get a happy ending in the movie because of the rats, which is a hilarious realistic take. Yeah, theres rats in the kitchen, we shutting that shit down.
Puss in Boots
I'm happy that everyone loves the new Puss in Boots movie because the original is just as great!! As a mexican, this movie is very enjoyable w the latino aspects of it.
The only thing that is iffy is how Kitty Softpaw's is presented. You can clearly tell there's two models for her. One before you realize she's a woman and one after the reveal. The first model has no white spots that are vital to a tuxedo cat and its more masc presenting. After the reveal though you can see the white on her chest, and she looks more feminine now. I'm glad the newer movie fixed this though!
JACK AND JILL ARE AMAZING. Those bitches are always killing it in every scene they appear in. The horse carriage being run by hogs instead? The voice acting? Top notch.
Prince of Egypt
The SONGS!! i never got tired of the entire movie actually. I know, I was introduced to this movie because *ahem* yeah. So I watched it a lot in school with my class. We wouldn't shut up about the lines in the movie. Everyone needs to watch it I think. The animation is so fucking good?? The animators gave themselves a challenge on making expressions with just the fucking eyes!! I know this movie and this movie knows me.
The retelling of Moses's story is still emotional every time I see it. The directors made sure to make this movie as respectful as possible. I dont know what to say!! Its a fucking masterpiece.
Princess and the Frog
FAVORITE DISNEY MOVIE!! Apparently I watched this in theatres straight up in Disney World. Dr Facilier. The songs. The New Orleans spin on the tale itself. I too am sad that most of the movie was them as frogs. Prince Naveen looks like every other Prince. But its a Disney movie. BUT I LOVE IT. Peak disney. Tiana is my favorite disney princess.
Those are the movies I watched on repeat for my entire childhood. Obviously I watched other things on repeat too but those arent movies. And these are also a deep insight into how I function and why I am the way I am. Maybe. Perhaps.
