It's finally happening. The vent app is getting shut down after costing it's owners an obscene amount of money in operating costs. The world is losing another small social media community :(
Literally everyone kinda saw this coming, but its sad anyways. No alternative feels quite the same -- good privacy control, no algorithms, small community, short form text content. The culture created by the users around username trading and layouts is also an interesting little thing that I'm bummed won't exist anymore. It's even kinda sad that the vent-specific drama (layout theft, username theft...etc) is gonna be gone. It seems like every social media is becoming more and more like every other social media, and vent was something truly unique in all that.
Bye vent, and thanks for helping me meet some of my closest friends.

it's for the best probably. the app was extremely toxic at times and many users experienced bullying and harassment. i left the app ages ago because people were far too negative and it was becoming increasingly more difficult to pursue healthy, platonic relationships on there.
