this OVA series is really uh. something. I won't get too into the plot because I think it's best enjoyed blind, but I'll give content warnings near the end of this blog.

Produced by Gainax in collaboration with Production I.G, FLCL is a very interesting piece of media with alot of stuff to analyse with themes of growing up, maturing, toxic relationships, sex, and much more, but probably the most praised aspect of it is it's insane animation.

Seriously, this thing is pure eye-candy when it comes to that department. Whether it be a big fight scene with explosions, a comedic one with silly expressions, or very serious and sombre moments, you can feel the amount of love and care that was put into each of these drawings.

It's already started to influence my personal art. If you are an animation fan in any capacity, this is a must-watch. And hey even if you're not a fan by the end I still think you can find something you like in there. Or just watch fight scene compilations, whatever works for you!

CONTENT WARNINGS!!!

This series is heavily focused on a toxic relationship between a 12 year old and presumed adult. The adult is repeatedly flirty and comes on to said minor (kisses him multiple times), and though it's revealed the adult was just manipulating with him it's still uncomfortable. said 12 year old is also engaged in another relationship with a 17 year old, though its less extreme. If any of this is a turn-off, do not watch this show. There's also a character in episode 5 that wears a nazi uniform. That's about it, but PLEASE always do your own research!
