1. any edgar allan poe stories but especially the fall of the house of usher & the tell-tale heart
2. misery by stephen king
3. the yellow wallpaper by charlotte perkins gilman
4. the picture of dorian gray by oscar wilde (not *really* horror but i count it)
5. things have gotten worse since we last spoke by eric larocca (VERY disturbing)
6. frankenstein by mary shelley
7. carmilla by sheridan la fanu
8. the strange case of dr. jekyll and mr. hyde by robert louis Stevenson
i don't read a lot of horror but i hope this helps!! most of these are classics but misery was published in the 80s & things have gotten worse since we last spoke takes place in the 2000s!!

I don't really have any "older" recommendations other than IT, but the book has some uh.. p3do shit towards the end that no one ever warned me about. but a newer one is Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke. It's not a good book it's pretty crap actually but I almost puked several times while reading it out of the sheer graphicness of the content.
