Science and Luck: Chapter 7

Scarlet

I took a strand of hair in my fingers, twirling it around as I gazed at Adalyn. She was staring in awe at all of the machines Bennett had made, pressing random buttons on most of them.

“Did you make all of these?” She turned to look at me expectantly and I was about to tell her no but I nodded instead causing her eyes to widen and she squealed.

“I can’t believe you’re able to run a country and make all of this at the same time!” I smiled at her excitement.

“Yea me neither.” I gasped and turned around, looking at the owner of the cold voice.

“Who’s he?” Bennett shrugged and grabbed a wrench off the kitchen counter.

“Just the guy living in the basement I guess.” He shot me another stern look before he headed back to the basement.

“Why do you have a rando in your basement?” Adalyn turned to me in confusion. I inwardly scoffed at the term she called Bennett.

“That’s Bennett, he’s my best friend.” She glared in the direction he had gone and hummed in annoyance.

“I don’t like him. You should kick him out, he seems like a freeloader anyways.” She crossed her arms and pouted, her tank top strap slipping off her shoulder.

“I can’t do that, Ada, he's my best friend. He’s been there for me since we were 5, and I’m pretty sure he told David I’m a lesbian-”

“I don’t care, I want him gone!” She shouted, interrupting me.

“Okay fine, geez calm down, Babe.” She smiled and blushed at what I said, finally calming down.

“Thank you, Princess.” She took my hand in hers and beamed at me.
