Kpop Thoughts

So I was having a discussion with a friend the other day over some of our opinions in Kpop and I figured I'd share some here because well I'd thought it would be a fun discussion.

Topic #1: Everglow will never reach their potential due to the groups long hiatus.

This one breaks my heart because I absolutely loved Everglow when they were on a tear of good projects from 2019 to mid 2020 was something else. Back then if you were to ask me what girl group that was not from a major company I'd see being successful I'd would say Everglow 100% but I believe that the company just gave up with them. I mean the group has over 2 million monthly listeners and have a very active fandom so idk why they haven't had new music in like two years. Anyways with this long hiatus I believe that if they were to make a comeback it would do well within the fandom but I don't think anyone would care about the group outside of the fandom because it has been too long since the last project and the industry has just pasted them by.

Topic #2: Kpop desperately needs another super popular soloist

The industry is missing a major soloist in the fourth generation. I am not in the loop as much as I was back in the day with all the new artist in the scene however I cannot name a single popular soloist in this generation that we are currently in. I mean the fourth generation has been going on for like what 4-5 years now and it is extremely overdue for another major soloist to debut. I'm not sure exactly who could be the next mega soloist (probably someone from IZ*ONE) but it is something that the industry needs.

Topic #3: Hui is the deciding factor to whether or not Pentagon continues.

Hui is one of my favourite K-pop idols and honestly at first I was a bit pissed off with him being on the survival show ‘Boy’s Planet’ however with him stating his reasoning for the show I can understand why he would do it. However I believe that the outcome of his placement at the end of the show will determine whether or not Pentagon (the groups that he’s currently it will disband later this year). If Hui makes it to the end and ends up debuting in the survival show group then I believe that it will be a 50/50 where or not Pentagon disbands (because they could get a lot of attention once the survival group is done). If he doesn't make the survival show group but is a fan favourite then I can see Pentagon either staying with Cube or all of the guys leaving the company and doing their own thing after the fact (just like GOT7 or IKON have done). But if he doesn't make it to the end and isn't a fan favourite I can see the group disbanding and all of the members going their separate ways. The best possible outcome for Hui (and his fans) is to debut in the new group and hopefully get the proper recognition that he deserves, while the best scenario for the group would be the second option. I’m not sure what option I would want to take, I just hope that Boy’s Planet gives Hui the platform to show how good of an artist that he is.
