That feeling of accomplishment

So my sister has this coworker who's usually in charge of the music that plays in the shop. She only plays like five songs and one of them is Shinunoga E-wa by Fuji Kaze. My sister goes on and on about how annoying it is—it's a great song, just overplayed to the point where she can't enjoy it anymore. We were hanging out and she made the poor choice of showing me the song. I liked it so much that I decided to learn it on piano.

The problem is, the most popular version of it is sped up, so I couldn't find good sheet music online. I have to learn it by ear.

I've learned things by ear before, but usually they're not so challenging. The bassline has its own melody, even though it's octaves and a fifth. Then we've got the other melody on top of it, which is thankfully very repetitive. Anyway, it took forever, but I learned both parts separately and just finished putting together the first verse tonight.

So far, I can play the intro and first verse exactly like the original song and I'm working up to the chorus, which is in a different key. When I feel it all coming together, I just feel so good. I've been uninspired for so long, but not it feels like I can finally advance. It's so rewarding to record myself and hear it because it sounds so effortlessly played (even though it took a LOT of effort).

But yeah, these are the lengths I go to annoy my sister.

I just didn't have anyone to talk to about it because I don't want a chance of someone ruining the surprise before I'm finished. But I'm feeling so excited about it that I have to talk about it.
