24/7 CTF Writeup 1- MISC - The Text Editor Jail

Hellooooo!

This is mostly a test blog... so let's get into it hm?

"We didn't have time to setup and test a proper jail, so this text editor will have to do for now. Can you break free?"

So, we're stuck in VIM, a text editor that most people may or may not recognize, I'm not going to explain much but let's just say tons of people struggle exiting this terminal based editor... (*/▽\*)

A screenshot of VIM, as shown in this challengeHm... perhaps we use the age-old method of finding the instructions on how to exit on google... They say it's :q so lets give her a go!

┐( ̄ヮ ̄)┌...HUH? ( ̄□ ̄」)
WHAT?? We still can't escape?!

That didn't work.... I guess Google is not to be trusted here.

Let's go into VIM's documentation to see anything of use... kudos to https://dev.to/mr_destructive/vim-terminal-integration-4pfp
hmm...
Maybe the terminal has some secrets to the outside world... waaaa
let's try :!ls

ta-daaaa~

Welp, seems we found what we're looking for... now let's use the "cat" command to get our flag and get out of this prison...

After that, congratulations! You broke free! Now to go and see what's next at the end of the horizon...<( ̄︶ ̄)>
