Super Dark Times (2017) review **CONTAINS SPOILERS** pls don't spoil this for yourself the movie is great i swear

Just to preface this is going to be a very informal review, basically just my stream of thoughts.

Also please do your self a favor and watch this before you read it, you can watch it for free on platforms like Crackle and Tubi. However, I don't suggest you watch this if you don't like slashers. The movie tends to get very gory and it may be hard to watch for some. You can find warnings for content on doesthedogdie.com if you're worried you might see something you don't want to. This review will also contains major spoilers for basically the whole movie and mentions murder if you don't want to read that. Happy watching/reading :)!

Recently I watched As You Are which I quickly began to obsess over, which led to me obsessing over Owen Campbell who played the main character. This obsession lead me to watch other movies he was in, such as Super Dark Times. I personally thought this movie was really good, an added bonus was that it was free which I love, but it did have it's flaws. I may be wrong but i feel like this movie is objectively bad, so many parts go unexplained that its hard to ignore (or maybe i'm just dumb and don't get it, that is likely. For example the whole deer scene at the beginning, what was that about, especially why would you highlight Allison in it. My sister, who didn't know anything about the movie other than the fact that Daryl died, thought the deer scene was foreshadowing and Allison was going to see Daryl in the woods. This made me so upset that they didn't do that, it would've actually made sense and been really cool. Instead Daryl doesn't get discovered the whole movie, which makes no sense. You're telling me John Wittcomb (or however you spell his name) was found immediately in the river under the bridge and Daryl is never found, at one point his body wasn't even covered with the leaves he was just laying there. I mean Daryl was reported missing and he must be pretty close given that the kids could bike there, and Zach biked there and back after school and made it back before his mom got home. You're telling me that nobody is looking for Daryl or at least trying. The only way I could justify this is that if Josh tipped the police tipped the police off about John but that is highly unlikely because then the police would probably get suspicious. I also don't get how Zach guessed that Josh was going to hurt Allison and Meghan when we pretty much get nothing to suggest that. Sure we get the accidental murder of Daryl but that was an accident, and what about Josh's reaction to that would suggest he would kill again. We also get the whole John Wittcomb thing but that's never confirmed, again, based off Josh's previous reaction why would we think he would kill John. I feel like there should've been another murder to kind of cement the fact Josh would kill again, or further amplify how he's acting stranger now. More on how a lot of the movie goes unexplained, there's a bunch of scenes like that. That guy who ran through the hallway crying, the thing in the gas station, the dreams (kinda). Like the first two things just never get explained and they feel kinda pointless. I would also like to mention Allison's whole character. The way they portray her, especially in the trailer and at the end, they make it seem like she's the main character. The whole movie is told through the perspective of Zach, after the Josh accidentally stabs Daryl we don't focus on him we focus on Zach. After the whole movie focused on Zach I expected it to end on him, but no, it ended on Allison. I feel like it would be so much more interesting to see what happened to Zach, like did he confess to helping hide Daryl's body or would he let Josh take the blame for it all after what he did to him. I may be missing something but I just don't know why the movie starts and ends with Allison. I would also like to address some theories, such as Josh's brother died. Throughout the movie we see Josh's brother mentioned, we know that he joined the marines and they don't know when he's coming back. People have theorized that Josh's brother died, which would explain how extremely he acts whenever he's mentioned. This makes sense and I think it is likely it is true, however I don't see how much this has to do with the plot. Maybe it adds to Josh's spiral towards the end, but I don't know. Another theory is that Allison was in on the murders. People have suggested Allison has some sort of fascination with death, as foreshadowed by the deer scene at the beginning. After she was rejected by Zach she went to Josh and he showed her Daryl's body. They then teamed together to kill John Wittcomb and (maybe) Meghan. I feel like this theory is very flawed because Allison wasn't even really rejected by Zach. There's isn't really a part where he specifically says he doesn't like her or subtly tries to say it. I understand that she probably assumed he didn't like her by the way he was acting (I would too) but even then she didn't react that badly to it. I feel like, from what we saw, she just got annoyed with him. As for the other theory, I feel like I can't talk on whether or not she was interested in death cause we don't get to know her much. Overall, I love Super Dark Times. I think the cinematography was really nice and looked good but the overall plot was sloppy. I hope this doesn't discourage y'all from watching as it was still good, even though I spoiled the whole movie. Also I'm in love with Owen Campbell and was so good in this I love him.
