If you call yourself a goth or gothic and then you just shop at places like Hot Topic and shit, and listen to TikTok-type music you're not a goth. You clearly don't understand the subculture. Goth is a music-based subculture. That is the core. If you don't listen to the music (and I'm talking more than just Siouxsie and the Banshees) you're a poser. You just like the fashion and want to be special. But you're probably not even correctly emulating it. Also, yes, there are many types of goth under the subculture, but it's a good idea to actually research the history.
Anyways. I really don't actually care all that much. I'm not even pressed over this. It doesn't matter to me. I just like giving my opinions on shit and making people angry. There isn't even really a reason to get angry over this.
There's some really good resources out there if you want to get in to the gothic subculture. It's not hard to find.

yeah like, you can be goth without dressing goth, as long as you listen to the music ur goth. I listen to some goth music but i dont rlly dress goth anymore.

Literally. If you don’t mind me talking about a similar situation in a different subculture, sometimes it feels like no one on tiktok even knows what scene is. They just want to make aesthetic pictures with too much shimmer and sparklez, they don’t want to dress in ways that respect the subculture /or/ listen to the music. Goth obviously has a more serious attitude then scene, but scene =/= ditzy children, it’s a lot more mature then people think and the way tiktok potrays us is bad. If you’re just jumping on the trend and not putting the work in to understand, that is the definition of a pozer.
