Science and Luck: Chapter 4

Bennett

I breathed a sigh of relief, then yelped as a particular spirit came out of nowhere.

β€œMaybe warn me next time! I’m going to die from a heart attack if you keep doing that!” I glared at him as he snickered.

β€œYou’ll get used to it. I’m great to hang around!” He beamed at me and I rolled my eyes.

β€œWhatever you say, Matthew.” I slipped past the spirit and all of my finished machines towards a more illegal lab area. I glanced at the open book and threw a few items into a cauldron, which already had a half-made potion bubbling in it. I glanced at Matthew and saw him drifting about, trying to knock various ingredients into the potion. I caught everything that tried to fall into the cauldron and placed them back in their places.

β€œStop trying to make a mess, I need a clean lab to work in if we’re doing this.” The mischievous spirit blew a raspberry at me and disappeared, taking his red glow.Β

β€œWhy did I even summon him?” I muttered to myself and got to work finishing the potion. I finished it very quickly and covered the explosive concoction to finish brewing on its own. This potion was able to blow up a large building, meant to be used only in emergency cases. I double-checked that the area was hidden and slipped back out, closing the door to my lab after taking the steps two at a time.
