David
I was scared shitless, this man who seemed to be a kid in my eyes, knew about my secret. I frantically looked through the vanilla folder he had thrown at me. When I met his eyes again he looked just as calm as before, causing me to narrow my eyes at him.
“You’re going to tell people, aren’t you?” I had given him no reason to like me and now he knew my darkest secret.Â
“That all depends on you, David.” I raised an eyebrow as if telling him to elaborate. It was his turn to narrow his eyes, leaning forward with his elbows on the desk.
“What motives do you have suggesting Scarlet start a country, and then try to woo her.” I raised my eyebrows in surprise and visibly relaxed.
“I’m just trying to hide, My Lord has been going crazy lately and many demons have been hiding from him, we’re all blending in with humans. I just wanted a place to call home, and maybe find love. I’ll give up my efforts with Scarlet though since you said she’s a lesbian, I respect that.” Bennett nodded, seeming to be satisfied with my answer.
“I honestly wasn’t expecting that from you, David.” He lifted a device that I hadn’t noticed he had.Â
“And according to this, you were telling the truth.” He beamed at me and I felt a weird flutter in my stomach, much like what I had felt with Scarlet.Â
“You’re not going to tell anyone about this right?” He nodded and gathered the items that had been in his file, taking them over to a locked file cabinet, opening the one marked “PRIVATE: KEEP OUT” and slipping it inside.
“Of course not, like I said, anything said down here, stays down here.” He relocked the cabinet and I heard him chant a magic spell that reinforced the lock. He seemed to be done talking to me and wandered over to a large machine that had a bunch of labels on it saying things like “Police”, “Memory Reader” and, “Make sure to consent to use of this machine.” I made sure to see myself out, taking the stairs two at a time.
