John Taylor: the man who killed Bach

Okay, so, I might have click baited you a bit! A more accurate title would be “John Taylor, the man who performed a poor excuse of an eye surgery on Bach which he fucked up so much that Bach face was mauled and infected which eventually killed him” but come on...that's the same thing! Especially when you realize that this isn't the first nor the last time he did that!

John Taylor is basically proof that Medical scams have existed long before the modern times, but it highlights the differences between modern and historic scams, for example, John actually did have a medical degree and his surgeries were completely legal, as he actually focused on operating celebrities like King George II thought he mainly focused on self-promotion, he was extremely cocky and moved around a lot, so he could act like his surgeries which killed people went perfectly, he would travel in a carriage which had the phrase “he who gives sight” which is....ironic!

Now to the Bach segment!

Bach started to experience health issues around 1749, his children and pupils became worried about him and it was becoming hard to write so when John Taylor came to Bachs town he decided to let John perform surgery on him, which while is easy for us to call him stupid of him to do, especially since John blinded Handel 2 years prior (which is a quite simple story really! Handel survived but he went mostly blind and continued to write until he died a few years later) but internet didnt exist and newspapers didnt cover stories like these, plus even if Bach did know of Johns victims, this operation was dangerous to perform even for actual skilled surgeons since the procedure is done by keeping the persons eye wide open with a cold metal device,cutting their eye open, taking out their eye lenses and just pray it heals back, all without anesthesia, best case scenario? you go 90% blind and all you an see is some light, worst case? you die.

John Taylor got a heavy paycheck for the surgery, he rushed it and left right away, when Bachs family took the bandages off they discovered that his face was mangled, the wound has not managed to heal and it was getting infected, and the worst thing is that John Taylor was long gone and Bach wouldnt face justice, he tried his best to stay happy through the last and painful period of his life so his family wouldnt grieve too hard, but he did end up dying 4 months later due to his injuries.
