Anxiety and how to deal with it

  • Hi :3

As a fellow anxiety sufferer, I will share some tips on how to best deal with stressful situations in which your anxiety takes over you. Again, these might not work on everyone but I'm sure some supportive advice will help, or at least I hope so. :)

Living with anxiety can be very difficult, but there are steps you can take that might help.

First, here are some websites that might guide you in your anxiety attacks that I'm a fan of:

  • myCompass.
  • Mental Health Online.
  • MindSpot Clinic.

1. TALK TO SOMEONE YOU TRUST

It may be that just having someone listen to you and show they care can help in itself. Getting stuff off your chest will bring you a feeling of relaxation if only just for a moment and believe me that moment will greately count. <3

2. TRY NOT TO WORRY ABOUT THINGS THAT YOU SHOULDN'T WORRY ABOUT

You might have worries you can't control.  It can be helpful to try different ways of addressing these worries. Try and time yourself on how much you worry about some things so that your brain isn't shocked if you stop worrying completely all of a sudden. Some people find it helps to set a timer. I always try to remind myself that it is ok to feel like everything is my responsibility and that it's up to my thoughts on how certain things will play out but I also try to remind myself that that moment won't last forever and that relaxes me, honestly.

3. Take care of your mental health

PLEASE, GET SOME QUALITY SLEEP! I know it's hard to push yourself to go to bed at a reasonable time and to wake up at a reasonable time but TRUST ME it makes a huge difference on your mental state. Sleep can give you the energy to cope with difficult feelings and experiences.

Think about your diet. Website that I love when it comes to planned out healthy meals is https://www.eatthis.com/ <3

Exercise can be really helpful for your mental wellbeing.

Sometimes when I REALLY don't feel like going outside for a walk, I take an activity or a chore outside. For an example, I eat my lunch outside or read a book. You will gradually start spending more time in the outdoors and enjoj, maybe, going on walks or something else. :)

4. ONE BREATH AT A TIME, TRUST ME

Check out https://breathball.com/ for easy breathing excercises.

I know that breathing is the easiest thing to do as a human being but in stressful situations feels like the hardest thing to do so just be patient with yourself and take it one breath at a time <3...

~MINDFULNESS-GOOD OR BAD?~

  • Some people find mindfulness helpful for coping with certain ANXIETY DISORDERS, but other people say it makes them feel worse. Just see what fits best with your situation.
  • If you try mindfulness and still feel unwell, ask yourself what alternative is right just for you.
  • This link might help you whit that matter : https://www.hhs.gov/answers/mental-health-and-substance-abuse/what-are-the-five-major-types-of-anxiety-disorders/index.html
  • In general, my advice is to look for natural ways to control your panic attacks and/or anxiety attacks like light excercises, keeping yourself in check, etc. :)

5. DIARIES OR NOTES REALLY HELP :)

This could help you spot patterns in what triggers these experiences for you, or notice early signs that they are beginning to happen. Living with anxiety can mean you think a lot about things that worry you or are hard to do.  aLSO CHALLENGING YOURSELF to do certain thing by yourself and giving yourself an award after you accomplish it (chocolate, shopping, spa day) really helps in my situation :)

6. CONNECT WITH OTHER PEOPLE THAT HAVE SIMILAIR PROBLEMS LIKE YOURSELF. SUPPORT IS KEY TO GETTING BETTER :)

Many people find it helps them to share ideas about how to stay well, connect with others and feel less alone.  Best app for that in opinion is 7cups.

Try an find support groups in your area so that you don't feel uncomfortable going somewhere where it's super unknown. This way if you don't like it you can just get up and leave. No stress. :)

Talk to your friends or people your age in general; you'll be surprised how many of you are dealing with the same issues. So be there for each other, that's the least you can do for a kind soul like yours :)

7. TALK TO A THERAPIST, ALSO, COMPLEMENTARY AND ALTERNATIVE THERAPIES MIGHT HELP

You may find that COMPLEMENTARY AND ALTERNATIVE THERAPIES  help you to manage your anxiety.

sOME OF them might be (just see what works the best for you):

  • yoga
    • meditation
    • aromatherapy
    • massage
    • reflexology
    • herbal treatments
    • Bach flower remedies
    • hypnotherapy.

Many chemists and health shops stock different remedies and should be able to offer advice.

Also, this is my favourite anxiety advice related youtuber so check him out as well: https://www.youtube.com/@TheAnxietyGuy1
