i have some very bad social anxiety and i reaaaaaally want to travel
but theres no one i can take with me so it has to be a solo travel
my family is super weary of allowing that, thinking people at airports will think i'm suspicious for being super shy, avoiding eye contact and stuff and will send me back
what are your thoughts?
lets not even get into the talk of me having panick attacks and easily fainting with them oansdoasdasd i like to believe that when im there for real i'll notice it isnt as bad as i thought and i'll be super chill the rest of the trip

Hi! I don't know you or your situation but I have/had depression/anxiety (I haven't been formally declared cured, but I'm off my meds now) and I travel alone due to necessity. My university is a flight, not drive, away from home, plus I studied abroad in London and flew over 5,000 miles from home alone! It was really scary, I'll be honest, but the way to work around it is to be understanding and accommodating of yourself. Basically, if you know you're going to be anxious about having very little time at the airport, arrive way too early! If you're worried about a short layover, book a later flight instead to give you more time to navigate the airport! Little things like that really ease the stress, plus tools like noise-cancelling headphones and stress toys can really help.
Also - literally everyone travelling is stressed out. You're not going to be the only person in line who looks nervous or who is keeping their head low. And again, if you build lots of time into your schedule for getting through security, you'll be on time even if they pull you out for a "random" search or whatever.
I hope this helps and that you travel safe! It's a beautiful world out there and you deserve to see it ️

i have been thinking about stress toys actually! i often make myself even more nervous when im not sure what to do with my hands and that could work, and hearing it as an actual tip makes me very glad! thanks!
and thank u so much for all the other tips!!! ill carefully consider each of them!
and wow, this flight for university is crazy! thankfully my college was right here in my hometown and i didnt have to travel- but then again it would also be a good challenge for my anxiety
anxiety needs a lot of bravery and challenges to be won over oasidnoandsasd, and im glad to hear you have made out of anxiety! i never had meds for it, and i gave up therapies for it so im taking the long way oasindasdasd

You can do this! I believe in you! Just remember to take small steps and push yourself only when you're ready.
