thoughts on sonny's new output / the skrillex "rebrand"

so, i must say im super pleasantly surprised at the quality of sonny's new music. recess upon first listen was a bit hit or miss for me (although it's grown on me ALOT since then) and everything dog blood and jack u was not my vibe, so i was going into this new era of skrillex as a cautious optimist- but wow! it's all honestly really great stuff. i don't think anyone ever doubted sonny could produce competent and great quality tracks, but these singles are really unique and although they do reflect sonny's new chapter in his production style, there's still some of that signature skrillex that his older fan base appreciate. i think any worries i originally had were quelled by supersonic's release last year, which honestly sits near the top of my favourite skrillex tracks ever, it's the strong realisation of all the experimenting he did in his quiet years and top tier contributions from the featured artists; but as a whole i think its an accurate reflection of the way dubstep has evolved since sonny's original claim to fame under mau5trap. dubstep, trap, and electronic music as a whole has evolved and sonny did the smart thing by choosing to evolve with it. essentially you could say he's still guiding and refining the genre HE pioneered. 

on a personal note, im glad that (at least visually) he's started caring about his health again. i know how difficult ed's are to overcome and i am so beyond proud of him for achieving that. and im also really excited for everything else that's to come in his future! you rock, sonny :-)
