HI so you might know the song Mama by My Chemical Romance,,,
um so in one of the verses, there's the lyric
Well mother, what the war did to my legs and to my tongue
You should've raised a baby girl, I should've been a better son
If you could coddle the infection, they can amputate at once
You should've been-
I could have been a better son
now i know this song is supposed to be about going to war, but from a different perspective it sounds like it's written from the perspective of a trans guy. the second line of "you should've raised a baby girl" and the next one about the "infection" being amputated (getting top surgery?).
that, and in the next chorus we have
She said you ain't no son of mine,
For what you've done they're gonna find
A place for you and just you mind your manners when you go
And when you go don't return to me, my love
the first line of this could be interpreted as the mother rejecting the fact that her son is well, not a girl, which ties in with "You should've raised a baby girl..". also, the lines after this could possibly be implying the thing many transphobic and homophobic people say: since you're gay/trans/not cishet you are going to HELL!!!!!!! which fits with how the rest of the song feels like it's dealing with that transphobia,,, "Mama, we ALL go to hell.."
honestly i think these are the two most prominent ones, but the lyric "stop asking me questions, i'd hate to see you cry" could work too because of when parents get suspicious and start asking their child over and over if they're anything but cishet and then get disappointed if they are,,
i know that the song in reality probably isn't about anything like this at all but i just thought it was a really interesting concept and i wanted to write it out to make it make sense.
'till next time.
-xoxo port
