I love rock music. And I don't mean the wannabe rock like Arctic Monkeys or MCR (though I did like them once!), I mean like Guns N' Roses, Foo Fighters, Poison, etc. Obviously not all of these are 'rock', some are hair metal. Overall though, I think they're really good bands. My current favorite songs are Dear Rosemary - Foo Fighters, Runnin' With The Devil - Van Halen, November Rain - Guns N' Roses and Girls, Girls, Girls - Motley Crue. I especially like Foo Fighters, though. I can't quite explain it, but I find their music to be very 'free-ing'. Not even in a mental or emotional way, but in a physical way. I could feel a ball of anxiety filling my chest, feel my vision blur, but if their music plays it makes it so much easier to get through. Like it fixes the situation. One of their songs I will never not like is Learn to Fly. It's weirdly comforting. For a song about wanting to be a pilot, it's incredibly emotional. I know I sound dumb for it, but it's true. "I'm looking to the sky to save me/Looking for a sign of life/Looking for something to help me/Burn out bright" touches my heart in a way I cannot express. I often times wish I could meet Dave Grohl to thank him. His music is so lovingly and beautifully written, I can't help but to feel the necessity to show my gratitude to the very man whose music has gotten me through that of life's worst trials and tribulations. Enough about FF. I've been raised on Van Halen, Guns N Roses, and Motley Crue alongside plenty of other bands like Poison, Cinderella, Whitesnake, Scorpions, and so on. Axl Rose once said in an interview that the 9-minute song November Rain is about having unrequited love that you simply don't want to deal with. And it resonates with me. I also enjoy the melodic tones, the orchestral music is iconic. Not to mention the instrumental rollercoaster the song goes through. It's simply a masterpiece, and it's hard to admit that it's turning 32 this year, as it feels like it's still 'new'. I like that some songs can still sound new no matter how much you listen to it. Most people won't listen to November Rain because it's 9 minutes, but the more you listen to the lyrics, you can find another interpretation almost every time. It's crazy. I think music that hits you hard emotionally is good music. The saying "Art is meant to comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable" exists for a reason, and I commonly find it in music. My parents HATE that I like Dream Widow (fictional band from the movie Studio 666, tied with Foo Fighters) because it's 'screaming and yelling', like yeah, it wasn't made for you. There's plenty of other music in the world. I don't like country, but I've never found myself blatantly being rude to my mom because she likes it, you know?
Anyway, I'm done with my music rant now, I'm going to go sleep. G'night!! :D
